Premier Division Classic On The Horizon – Week 1
The Shoestrings-Chargrill sponsored Chippenham & District Sunday Football League gets underway this Sunday and although the Wiltshire FA Sunday Cup has taken a whole host of CDSFL teams there are are handful of matches that will get the season under way.
Chippenham Icons FC FC vs FC Lacock
Both teams will be looking to make the best start at the reversed venue of Leafy Lane as Chippenham Icons and FC Lacock start their Premier Division campaign where all teams will play each other three times this season.
Ryan Ross’ pre season plans were patchy at best by his own admission with a number of players unavailable throughout but if he has managed to get a the firepower of Billy Gleed & Mark Dolman then FC Lacock will always have a fighters chance in any match.
If however they are still struggling to get a full squad of players together then it could well be that Chippenham Icons mark their debut in the top division with all three points.
Semington FC vs AFC Melksham
As always, the first match is the most difficult to predict with no new season form to go by but it is hard to look past three points heading back to Melksham this Sunday.
If the AM Print & Copy sponsored Knockout Cup win was anything to go by then this AFC Melksham side have a stoic defence that can soak up pressure as well as some potent forward players who can deliver the goods under pressure. Add Rhys Talmash to that mix and it is hard to look past any other result.
But as always with football, write Semington off at your own peril because if AFC Melksham are not at the top of their game then the three points may well stay with the hosts in this opener.
