Pre Match Preview – Wiltshire FA Sunday Cup – Preliminary Round
The first match of the 2021/22 season sees the Wiltshire FA Sunday Cup take precedence for a host of the Chippenham & District teams as the preliminary round has drawn up a number of fixtures from the CDSFL.
Beeches FC vs The British Lion FC
Last season’s beaten Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup finalists, Beeches FC will be looking to make a bright start against The British Lion of Division 3.
Beeches have the firepower of Steve Ball to call on and I am sure he will relishing some lower league opposition to open his and Beeches account for the season.
Old Road FC vs FC Devizes United
A case of another beaten finalist with Devizes United finishing as runner up in the AM Print & Copy sponsored Knockout Cup. They certainly had their chances in that final and they will be looking to get their season off with a bang.
Old Road are not normally an easy ride though and I am sure that they will be looking to cause the first upset of the season in the very first week.
Pack Horse FC vs Dyson Institute FC
Pack Horse are not to be taken lightly this year and it is thought that in Adam Shipman and Josh Madle they have the creativity and goals to come good on that claim.
Dyson Institute really are the unknown team of the CDSFL so it remains to be seen at this stage what they are capable of.
Royal Oak FC vs Sutton Benger FC
An all Division 1 clash will take place at the rearranged venue of Northbrook and it likely be a difficult match to call in this prelim match.
The only match to date ironically took place as the first match of the curtailed 2020/21 season where Sutton Benger claimed a 2-0 victory to end Royal Oak’s 16 match winning streak when they were cruelly denied to take the title winners medal from the season previous.
I am sure Richard Tandy will have his boys fired up to claim some revenge on The Buttons this time around.
Spires Athletic FC vs Biddestone FC
Spires Athletic will be looking to draw on the experience of seasoned campaigner Pete Thornton as this young side get to grips with life in the Chippenham & District Sunday League.
However, it could be a difficult task this week as they have been handed a WSC cup tie against Biddestone FC who are currently two divisions above their counterparts. On paper it would be hard to not have Biddestone as the favourites before a ball is kicked.
Staverton Rangers (Sunday) FC vs Kingfisher FC
Both sides in this fixture will no doubt be looking at this fixture as the perfect way to start the season and both will be looking for a win in this opener.
Lance Davis’ Staverton Rangers (Sunday) FC certainly have goals in the team but it may be at the back that may cause them an issue or two going into the season.
For Chris Simpkins and his Kingfisher side he will be looking to take advantage of playing a team in the division below and will hope that will fuel the hunger of his squad for the season to come.
