Knockout Cup – Round 4 – Week 11

Week 11 is upon us in the Shoestrings-Chargrill Sponsored Chippenham & District Sunday Football League and this week saw another round of group stage matches in the AM Print & Copy Sponsored Knockout Cup.

Knockout Cup Group A:

AFC Melksham 13-3 Warminster Athletic FC

Spirited Display In Vain For Warminster

It may look like a normal display from AFC Melksham but I am sure Stuart Green will have been pleased with many aspects of his Warminster Athletic’s efforts here against runaway Premier Division leaders.

Despite the scoreline many Premier Division sides struggle to break down the Melksham defence but Warminster did so on three occasions.

Melksham started well with two quick goal goals from Rhys Talmash & Jack Woolsgrove but they then started to become wasteful which gave Warminster a route into the match as Ethan Green latched on to a poor clearance from stand in keeper Sam Clarke and beat him with a neat lob for  2-1. Warminster showed some more good moves to cause the home side enough to be concerned about.

This did seam to click Melksham into gear as they scored five goals without reply although Warminster did get themselves another with a well worked goal finished off by Ethan Green for a halftime scoreline of 7-2.

It was more pressure from Melksham in the second half and there efforts to try and swell the scoreline saw them lose some team shape and the also found Warminster Player Manager, Stuart Green in inspired form to pull off some spectacular saves.

It took the home side some 15 mins to add an eighth and then they went all out attack leaving just Olie Clark and Keiren Pearce at the back and a further five goals but Ethan Green would complete his hattrick for the final score of 13-3.

The confirmed list of scorers for Melksham were Jack Woolsgrove(4), Rhys Talmash(3), Zac Hillier(2) including a fabulous long range strike with further singles from Jordan de Silva, Sam Tallis, Kieron Pearce and Kieran Mills.

Melksham Manager Mike Rodgers also reserved praise for Warminster’s efforts throughout the match and referee Dave Kemmery for his officiating of the match.

Kingfisher FC 1-5 FC Box

Box Remain In Pole Position In Group A

Kingfisher’s Jekyll & Hyde form continued as they lost out to FC Box at Sutton Benger Rec.

It was actually a very tight affair in the in the first period and Kingfisher took the lead through a Chris Cox strike but this was cancelled out by Adam Mitchell and the sides went in level at 1-1.

Box then went through the gears, first James Bamford put them in front for the first time in the match and that was followed by a brace from Spencer Dymond-Hall to extend the lead to 4-1.

And their was still time for Mitchell to grab his second of the match and Box’s fifth for a comfortable victory.

British Lion FC 3-0 Spires Athletic

Lion With Comfortable Win

It was a fairly comfortable day at the office for the all Division 3 match up as British Lion ran out 3-0 winners against Spires Athletic.

Glynn Rowles opened the scoring for Lion and they went in at the break with a two goal advantage when Liam Mortimer doubled their lead.

There was room for one more goal in the second period when Jamie Hall scored the third and final goal in a straight forward victory.

Knockout Cup Group B:

FC Devizes United 1-2 Chippenham Icons FC

Icons Set Cat Amongst The Pigeons

Chippenham Icons have really set the cat amongst the pigeons in Group B as this away win against Premier Division rivals Devizes United leaving three teams at the summit separated only by goal difference.

This was expected to be tight match and it did not disappoint on that front, Icons leading at the break thanks to a Rich Hudson effort.

The second period was equally as close with a goal from each side, one from Jamie Walters for Devizes and Ryan Nicholls netting for turned out to be the winner for Icons.

Lavis FC 3-1 Royal Oak FC

Lavis Edge All Division 1 Affair

Lavis are one of those aforementioned teams in the three horse race in Group B and they may have claimed a psychological edge on their divisional rivals Royal Oak with this 3-1 win.

It was practically a perfect first 45 for Aaron Latchem’s men as they kept Richard Tandy’s side at bay as well as going into the break with two goals from Ryan Underwood in the stat book.

Jake Duckett managed to pull a goal back for Oak but Matt Purdy’s goal ensured Lavis are firmly in the mix for qualification from Group B.

Sporting Box FC 4-3 Calne United FC

Sporting Edge Vallens Terrace Thriller

Last week Sporting Box claimed their first three points of the Division 1 season and they followed that up with their first three points in this competition, edging a seven goal thriller against Calne United of Division 2.

In a tight match throughout, the teams played out an enthralling first half and by the break the scoreline was 3-2 in favour of Calne United an Adam Welch brace and an Ashley Monaghan effort. Jay Painter and Zilwood Stead.

But it was Sporting who completed the comeback, Lewis McCarron and Jake Angell scoring the second half to take then to victory.

Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC A-W FC Lacock

Lacock were awarded the win as Fox & Hounds could not filed a team for this fixture.
