Division Two Round-Up 23-Jan
Calne romp to victory in derby day showdown
Calne United FC 8 The Pewsham FC 0
The long awaited first meeting of the season between fierce rivals Calne United FC and The Pewsham FC took place at Goatacre Recreation Ground and it was the former who claimed the honours following their thumping 8-0 success which means that the Pewsham are still looking for their first Shoestrings-chargrill sponsored Chippenham Sunday League, Division Two win of the campaign.
Four goals in each half earned Calne bragging rights until the side next meet. Aaron Clegg’s double and a goal each from George Dolman and Dean Fry did the first half damage. David Williams, George Madden, Sorin Cosmin and a third of the match for Clegg completed the victory for Pete Horne’s side.
Fox fightback, leaves Fishermen talking about the points that got away
Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 2 Kingfisher FC 2
Kingfisher FC travelled to Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC looking to build on their recent success against both AFC Melksham where they claimed an impressive draw and last week’s win away at The Pewsham.
Leading 1-0 at the interval courtesy of a Josh Mannings goal and then doubling their lead via a Matt Holdaway penalty, the Fishermen were left taking about the points that got away as they allowed Fox & Hounds back into the game with two goals of their own to claim a 2-2 draw.
Sam McEntee started the fight back and Reece Collyer netted the goal that earned Fox & Hounds their share of the spoils.
Home comforts for Old Road as victory moves them clear at the summit
Old Road FC 2 Steeple Ashton FC 1
Steeple Ashton FC who started the day with a share of the Division two top spot, brought the curtain down on their league campaign with a visit to second placed Old Road FC and despite a brave effort, they suffered a 2-1 loss that saw Old Road take over at the top of the table.
Shamus Nickless-Mooney scored from the penalty spot to give Old Road a slender advantage at the break. Carl Ledbury headed home an Aaron Burbidge corner to see parity restored on 65 minutes. With both teams going for the win, it was Old Road who came up trumps as with 10 minutes remaining Zak Sallows struck what proved to be the winner.
