KNOCKOUT CUP – Quarter Final Draw

The quarter-final draw for this season’s AM Print & Copy sponsored Knockout Cup competition has been made and all four of the ties have the potential to be cup classics

The pick of the bunch is probably the match at Sandy Lane, Seend, where AFC Melksham return to the ground that saw them beat FC Devizes United 3-0 to lift the cup last season. The cup holders will face Lavis FC, who suffered Wiltshire Sunday Cup heartache at the hands of their top flight rivals at the start of January. Still smarting from their 2-1 lost, Aaron Latchem’s side will be desperate to avenge that defeat in what promises to be a mouth-watering clash.

Last season’s beaten finalists FC Devizes United will play hosts to local rivals The British Lion FC who although from Division three shouldn’t be under estimated by Oscar Webster’s young chargers, who themselves will be looking to record the perfect result ahead of their Wiltshire Sunday Cup showdown against Swindon League outfit DPR FC the following Sunday.

A shock could be on the cards at Leafy Lane, Corsham, where top flight side Chippenham Icons entertain Third division Spires Athletic who are more than capable of causing a cup upset. Icons who haven’t been at their best in the League, have picked up the scalps of FC Devizes United and Lavis FC on their way to finishing third in Group B, while Spires claimed the fourth place berth in Group A to book their place in the final 8.

The final tie will see FC Lacock of the Premier division as favourites to beat Second division’s FC Box but again latter who have a number of experienced players and former Knockout Cup winners in their ranks will travel to Lacock looking to and believing they can cause an upset.
