WG PARR TROPHY – Quarter Final Draw

The eight remaining teams in this season’s RP Clarke Sheds & Fencing sponsored WG Parr Trophy competition discovered their fate on Wednesday as the draw for the quarter-finals was made at the League monthly committee meeting.

With Cup holders, Lavis FC unable to defend the trophy they won last year when they defeated The Castle FC, 4-1 after extra this years competition looks wide open, with on paper Semington are expected to be favourites due to them being the only top flight team in the final eight.

However the formbook would suggest otherwise and the team hotly tipped to go all the way are third division newcomers Audley FC who won all their six matches to top Group A. Jordan Tarrant’s team host The Pewsham FC whose place in the quarter-finals was gifted them following the withdrawal of Biddestone from the League. Audley should have few problems making the semi-finals, but should Pewsham win, it would be one of the biggest cup upsets for many years.

The aforementioned Semington will have the welcome mat out for First division Sutton Benger who reached the semi-finals stages of the Subsidiary Cup last term and will no doubt be hoping for another exciting cup run that will light up a season that has so far failed to ignite for Kia Flack’s team. The Buttons as they are affectionately known will give it their best shot and if Semington who themselves have yet to win a league match, having lost all eight, have an off day then their is every chance of Benger making it through the semi-final stage.

Beeches FC who were beaten Subsidiary Cup finalists last season, have a tricky draw against Old Road FC who they share the pitch at The Beeches, Shaw with. The last time the teams locked horns, Beeches won 6-3, and they may well start the tie as slight favourites, but the four games, this one looks to be the most appealing and could go all the way before a winner is declared.

Steeple Ashton FC who complete their Division two league programme this coming Sunday, will visit Third division new boys Westbury Celtic FC looking for a win that will extend their campaign for another game at least. The smart money would be on an Ashton side especially as Westbury have yet to win any of their six league outings to date, while Ashton currently top their respective division.

The full draw is

Semington FC Vs Sutton Benger FC

Beeches FC Vs Old Road FC

Westbury Celtic FC Vs Steeple Ashton FC
