WG Parr Trophy Round-Up 23-Jan
Westbury keep Misfits waiting for first success
Misfits FC 0 Westbury Celtic FC 8
With the quarter-finalists of this term’s RP Clarke Sheds & Fencing sponsored WG Parr Trophy already decided, the two remaining First Round, Group A matches were seen by many as dead rubbers, however the four teams involved in those games would have argued against that.
Misfits hosted their third division stable-mates Westbury Celtic bidding for a first win in all competitions this campaign, but unfortunately for the Chippenham based side it wasn’t to be as Westbury won 8-0 to claim what was their third win of the competition.
Tyler Gane and Chris Steele were on target for Westbury in a first half that saw Misfits make a game of things, after the break and as they ran out of steam the floodgates were breached with the visitors to Bromham netting six more unanswered goals.
Ollie Drew who came on as a substitute helped himself to a 3-timer, Josh Scott, Aaron Knowles and a second from Tyler Gane made up the winners tally.
Beeches FC 4 Staverton Rangers FC 0
Battling, Rangers undone at the Beeches
With their berth in the last eight already secured, First division, Beeches FC hosted third division Staverton Rangers who had chalked up one win from their previous 5 encounters in the competition, and despite giving a good account of themselves against Andy Anderson’s side, Rangers suffered a 4-0 loss.
Rangers who had the bare 11, and with the final score line slightly flattering, the third division outfit can feel proud of their efforts in what was well contested and fairly even game.
First half goals from Joe Cragg and Josh Thornton put Beeches 2-0 up at the break. Steve Ball made it 3-0 and a second from visitors leading scorer Ball completed the 4-0 win.
The quarter-finals which are scheduled for Sunday 30th January are as follows, Audley FC v The Pewsham FC; Beeches FC v Old Road FC; Semington FC v Sutton Benger FC and Westbury Celtic FC v Steeple Ashton FC
