KNOCKOUT CUP SEMI-FINAL DRAW
The remaining four teams in this seasons A M Print & Copy sponsored Knockout Cup have discovered their fate and after Thursday evening’s draw, there is every chance of a repeat of last terms showpiece final between AFC Melksham & FC Devizes United as the top flight heavyweights were kept apart in the semi-final draw.
Oscar Webster’s FC Devizes United side who suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Melksham a year ago will host second division FC Box who won’t be a pushover for Webster’s youthful side.
Devizes will be desperate for a second stab at Knockout Cup glory, but first they must overcome a Box side who are packed with many experienced players who have tasted cup final success previously and with the scalp of Sunday Cup Finalists, FC Lacock to their name already they will be out to be party poopers for a second successive round.
Top flight stable mates Chippenham Icons FC and AFC Melksham go head-to-head in the other semi-final which is being played at Leafy Lane, Corsham.
Although Steve Hunt’s Icons side who suffered a 12-0 defeat at the hands of their opponents way back in September will be underdogs, they shouldn’t be taken lightly as the last time they met, they became the only team to date that have denied the Premier division leaders maximum points this term.
Should both AFC Melksham and FC Devizes United progress from their respective semi-finals, not only should it produce another thrilling finale, it will give Devizes the opportunity to avenge last terms defeat, but it will also be the first time since the 2014/15 campaign that the same two sides have contested back to back finals, on that occasion Corsham Centre FC got the better of Castle FC for a second successive season.
