DIVISION ONE ROUND-UP – 6th February

Pack Horse claim share of top spot

Lavis FC 3 Pack Horse 6

With the weather leading to Shoestrings chargrill-sponsored Chippenham League, First Division leaders Sporting Box missing out on their clash with Beeches FC, it gave one of their closest challengers the chance to close the gap at the top of the table.

Pack Horse who came from 2-0 down to beat leaders, Sporting Box 3-2 a week ago, travelled to Lavis FC whose own promotion challenge, has somewhat come off the rails in previous weeks.

Lavis, again missing key players were dealt another blow to their promotion hopes, as a 6-3 triumph for Pack Horse saw them move level at the top of the standings, on 15 points with Sporting Box, but with a game in hand.

In what was a feisty contest, where more than the one player should have seen red, the game contained a number of flash points and many controversial moments, with two of the first half penalties being debatable and a Pack Horse goal allowed to stand despite, a clear hand ball in the build-up. Had the Lye, had VAR, the outcome of the game may have been a lot different.

Adam Shipman’s opener for Pack Horse, left many people watching bemused he appeared to handle the ball before lashing home for 1-0. A penalty, awarded after Darren Jones handled led to Shipman making it 2-0 before Matty Hall halved the deficit for Lavis.

Lavis then conceded, what they thought was a soft penalty, led to Shipman completing his hat trick for 3-2, before Lavis were awarded a penalty of their own, which even they thought was unjustified. Jack Booth kept his calm from the spot to cut the gap for a second time. Max Wyatt restored the 2-goal cushion for Pack Horse to take them into the break 4-2 ahead.

Ben Tylee got Lavis back the contest with the hosts third of the morning, but it wasn’t enough as further goals from Ali Ellis and Josh Madle sealed the 6-3 win for Pack Horse who somehow finished the game with a full quota of players on the park, while Lavis had Olly Sterling sent off for alleged retaliation.
