DIVISION THREE ROUND UP – 27th March

Lion on course to win the title

Staverton Rangers FC 0 The British Lion FC 4

With two matches remaining and with both of those against a struggling Dyson Institute FC side it would take a very brave or foolish man to bet against Devizes based The British Lion FC from beating long time leaders Audley FC to the Shoestrings-chargrill sponsored Chippenham Sunday League, Third division title.

A 4-0 victory for the Lion away at Staverton Rangers FC moved them level on 33 points with the Audley, but with a game in hand, and it would take a major upset to deny them the champions crown.

Liam Mortimer’s effort for British Lion separated the teams at the interval.  The second period saw the champions elect finally break the resistance of their hosts and Bowerhill and when Angus Webster doubled the Lion’s lead, Rangers wilted in the sunshine.

A second for Mortimer along with a Jamie Hall strike wrapped the 3 points for the Lion who had beaten their opponents 6-0 at the start of the month.

Westbury Celtic FC 0 Spires Athletic FC 8

Not for the first time in recent weeks have Westbury Celtic FC struggled to raise a team, against Spires Athletic FC it was no different as once again they had the bare 11, and although they battled bravely the quality of their opponents was there for all to see as Kieran Baskerville’s side coasted to an 8-0 success.

Aiden Jackson, Daniel Leany and hat tricks from both Hayden Campbell and Sam Wallis who celebrated the recent birth of his son with his first ever 3-timer for Spires and the first treble he has netted since October 2017 when he came off the bench to score 3 against Biddestone made up the winners tally.
