SUBSIDIARY CUP ROUND UP – 20th March

Ties nicely posed in Subsidiary Cup

Losing teams from today’s First Leg matches of this seasons Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup will have everything to play for when the lock horns in the second leg showdown next weekend, with the aggregate score winners over the two legs progressing to the next round, and with some games on a knife edge, today’s victors may yet miss out on a quarter final spot.

Audley will expect to progress

Audley FC 5 Misfits FC 2

With a 3 goal advantage over Misfits FC heading into next Sunday’s Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup return fixture, WG Parr Trophy finalists Audley FC will back themselves to build on their 5-2 success at Leafy Lane and keep their hopes of landing another cup final appearance alive.

Jordan Tarrant, Jordan Murphy and Sam Myles netted first half goals for Audley.  A second for Murphy and a rare effort from Kieran Tarrant made up the winners tally.

Dave Smith and Ben Wood were on target for a Misfits side who had been hit for double digits in each of the previous 3 meetings between the sides.

Calne take slender lead to Ashton

Calne United FC 3 Steeple Ashton FC 2

The Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup tie between Calne United FC and Steeple Ashton FC is wide open, Calne will travel to Steeple Ashton leading 3-2 from the first leg, but won’t be taking anything for granted as Aaron Burbidge’s side won both of the league encounters, so have every chance of turning things around.

Adam Gough saw his opener for Ashton cancelled out by Kieron Gleed and when Gough scored his second of the contest to hand the advantage back to Ashton, it was looking like another win for the villagers.

Calne had other ideas and turned the game on its head in the second half, George Dolman restored parity before Dale Wood scored the all-important third for Pete Horne’s side.

Pack Horse & Beeches have all to play for

Pack Horse FC 2 Beeches FC 2

Pack Horse FC and Beeches FC will have everything to play for when they teams meet at Shaw next Sunday morning.  In what was the first of three meetings between the division one stable mates before the end of the campaign, the teams were inseparable as they fought out a 2-2 stalemate in the first leg battle in the Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup.

Tom Blackman’s well taken goal gave Beeches the lead, ahead of Jack Williamson levelling for Pack Horse when he scored from the penalty spot.

The second half began with Tyler Smith putting Pack Horse 2-1 ahead, however they were unable to see the game out as a penalty from Steve Ball ensured the first let ended all-square, to set up what should be a thriller next week.

Box edge top flight Semington

Semington FC 0 Sporting Box FC 1

Another Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup tie that is on a knife edge is the one between Semington FC and Sporting Box FC with the latter taking a narrow 1-goal lead back to Vallens Terrace next week.

First division, Sporting Box got the better of their top flight opponents thanks to a 1-0 win, Aaron Ward-Baptiste’s second half strike being the only goal of the game.

Lavis on course for quarter finals

Sutton Benger FC 0 Lavis FC 5

After beating Sutton Benger FC 5-1 in the league last Sunday, Lavis FC visited Benger for a second successive week, only this time they were battling for a place in the quarter finals of this seasons Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup.  Although this was only the first leg, Lavis will be favourites to progress as they take a healthy five goal lead into the second leg, following their 5-0 triumph.

Jack Booth gave Lavis the lead, Jack Sterling made it 2-0 and when Sterling added his second before half time, Lavis were in cruise control.

The second period saw Levi Wood who scored a hat trick last week, add a fourth when he converted from the penalty spot.  Jack Sterling capped a man of the man performance when he bagged his third of the contest to take home the match ball and wrap up a 5-0 success for Aaron Latchem’s side.

Pewsham win first game of the season

The Pewsham FC 6 Dyson Athletic FC 4

Third division Dyson Institute FC will be looking to overturn a 2-goal deficit when they host second division The Pewsham FC in what could be a closer than expected Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup Second Leg showdown next Sunday.

The Pewsham who had failed to win any of their previous 18 matches this term, have put themselves in a good position to extend their season even further after a 6-4 success over Dyson earned them their first win of the season.

Dyson gave a great account of themselves and they shouldn’t be taken lightly in the second leg otherwise Pewsham may end up missing out on a place in the quarter finals.

Tom Butler was on target for Dyson in a first half that saw Joe Hughes, Harrison Wicks and Ali Moor-Bardell score for Pewsham.

After the break, Pewsham netted 3 further goals via a second for Moor-Bardell, Billy Walker and a Henry Skipton-Carter own goal who deflected a Steve Browning free kick beyond his own keeper.   Dyson were given hope as they also found the net 3 times, Skipton-Carter atoned for his own goal, a second for Tom Butler and a Tom Hughes effort left them with a 6-4 defeat.

Having played the whole game with the bare 11, Dyson will be hoping that they can get a few more players on board for the return leg, where they may just upset the odds.

Athletic in driving seat

Warminster Athletic FC 3 Kingfisher FC

Warminster Athletic FC may hold a handsome 3-0 advantage over Kingfisher FC ahead of next week’s Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup second leg clash.  However the Fishermen who couldn’t raise a team for the first leg, shouldn’t be written off as with a full strength side they have every chance of overturned their deficit and winning the cup tie.
