Covid plays part in deciding Cup matches
Steeple Ashton overturned an odd goal deficit to beat Calne United in what was the stand out game in the Second Leg matches from the Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup First Round, that unfortunately saw matches awarded due to players and management of both Old Road FC and Pack Horse being struck down by Covid19.
Ashton beat Calne in Cup thriller
Steeple Ashton FC 3 Calne United FC 2 AET – Aggregate 5-5 Steeple Ashton Win 4-2 on penalties
The tie of the round in the Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup was at St Mary’s where hosts Steeple Ashton FC overcame a 3-2 first leg defeat to claim a 4-2 penalty shoot-out triumph against Second division stable mate Calne United FC.
With normal time finishing 2-1 in favour of Ashton, the aggregate score was tied at 5-5, extra time saw both teams net, leading to the dreaded penalty lottery.
Trailing 3-2, Ashton didn’t take long to get back in the tie as Stefan Brinzaru put them ahead on the day level on aggregate and things got better when Dan Tugwell doubled their advantage and put them 4-3 up over the two legs.
The second half saw Calne hit back and when Tim Beechem deflected Alex Tucker’s shot passed his own keeper it took the game to extra time where Calne thought they had won it when Kieron Gleed’s penalty put them 5-4 ahead, but with almost the last kick of the game Dan Tugwell bagged his second of the morning to snatch a 3-2 win for the hosts and level the overall score at 5-5.
Successful spot kicks from Stefan Brinzaru, Adam Gough, Billy Wilkins-Pratt and Aaron Burbidge took Steeple Ashton to the quarter-final stages.
Pack Horse exit cup after Covid hits club
Beeches FC 3 Pack Horse 0 H/W – Beeches FC win 5-2 on Aggregate
Beeches FC who are already in the final of this season’s WG Parr Trophy, progressed to the quarter finals stages of the Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup, however a 3-0 walkover that gave them a 5-2 aggregate victory over first division stable mates Pack Horse FC isn’t how they would have wanted to book their spot in the final 8 of the competition they reached the final in last term.
In what was a winner takes second leg clash following a 2-2 draw in last Sunday’s first leg, Pack Horse who were have lost many players and their management team to Covid had no other option than to give the game and the tie to last season’s beaten finalists.
Lavis look to Sub Cup for silverware
Lavis FC 3 Sutton Benger 2 – Lavis FC win 8-2 on Aggregate
Lavis FC and Sutton Benger FC met for the third time in as many weeks and once again it was Aaron Latchem’s Lavis side who emerged victorious, a 3-2 victory on this occasion earned them an 8-2 aggregate success over the Buttons in the Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup.
Already 5-0 up from the first leg meeting Kieran Plummer’s first half strike extended their advantage even further. Levi Wood and Jamie Hancock scored after the break and although they trailed 3-0 on the day, Sutton Benger battled back a two goals for Tom Stratton on a day that Jason Cole played his final game for Benger and bring his 10 year association with the club to an end made the score line look more respectable.
For, Cole who has been a player on the league for probably over 20 years, his stint at Benger may be over, but the 41 year old has no plans to hang up his boots at it is believes he intends to play for Misfits FC next season.
Audley march on in search of Cup glory
Misfits FC v Audley FC 2-5 – Audley FC win 9-3 on Aggregate
Misfits FC may have suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Audley FC but Ben Thomas’ side who had already suffered four losses at the hands of Jordan Tarrant’s side will see that as a morale boosting score line. Trailing 5-2 from the First leg, the reverse fixture of Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup first round match could have resulted in another heavy loss, but Misfits who may have suffered a 9-3 aggregate defeat would have taken that when the draw was announced.
After a goalless first half, Misfits took the lead thorough Ben Wood, but any hopes of an upset were quickly ended as Jordan Tarrant restored parity and then added a second to give Audley the lead and a Gareth Jones double made the final score 4-1.

A 3-0 victory for First division Sporting Box FC over top flight opponents Semington FC on the back of their 1-0 First Leg success earned the Vallans Terrace based side a well-deserved 4-0 aggregate win and a quarter-final spot in the Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup.
Just like last week when neither team could make a first half breakthrough, the game came to life in the second period as goals from Callum Tounge, Nathan Baldwin and last Sunday’s match winner Aaron Ward-Baptiste wrapped up the win for Sporting Box.
Pewsham reach quarter finals after walkover

Third division Dyson Institute FC wereunable to raise a team for their Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup Second Leg meeting with second division The Pewsham FC who were 6-4 ahead from last week’s First Leg meeting.
With Dyson unable to raise a team, Pewsham were awarded the match with a 3-0 winning score line, giving them a 9-4 aggregate win over the two games.
Athletic sink Fishermen in Sub Cup
Kingfisher FC 2 Warminster Athletic FC 4 – Warminster Athletic FC win 7-2 on Aggregate
Warminster Athletic FC held a handsome 3-0 advantage over Kingfisher FC ahead of their Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup second leg clash. The Fishermen who couldn’t raise a team for the first leg, suffered a 4-2 defeat in the reverse clash that saw them crash out of the competition with a 7-2 aggregate loss.
Ed Baldwin and Adam Loveridge found the net for Kingfisher, while Gareth Bradshaw and Callum Hotine with two apiece earned Warminster a worthy triumph on the day.
Old Road faced with uphill task

Second division leaders Old Road FC saw their Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup hopes dealt a cruel blow after they were forced into forfeiting their First Round, First leg tie against Chippenham Icons after many of their players were hit with Covid19.
Icons will go into next week’s Second leg with a healthy 3-0 lead, but Old Road will certainly make things hard for them as they look to overturn the deficit, that’s providing they put a team together.
