PREMIER DIVISION ROUND UP – 17 April
Champions Melksham sign off in style
AFC Melksham 5 Semington FC 3
After clinching the shoestrings-chargrill sponsored Chippenham Sunday League, Premier Division title last weekend with their victory over FC Lacock, champions AFC Melksham played hosts to Semington FC in what was their final league outing of the season.
Mike Rogers side who have a Knockout Cup final showdown with FC Box next week to look forward too, could have been forgiven had they chosen to rest a few key players ahead of the game at Hardenhuish Park, but although they may have been out of position, Melksham fielded a strong line up for their clash against their near neighbours that they won 5-3.
Goals from Rhys Talmash, Jordan Croad and regular keeper Adam Dhinsa playing outfield gave Melksham a 3-0 interval lead.
Although Semington rallied in the second period and scored 3 goals of their own courtesy of Bobby ‘The Legend’ Mitchell, Ian Dowell and Alex MacLachlan it didn’t save them from defeat as Sam Townsend and Kieran Mills bagged the goals that wrapped up a 5-3 triumph for Melksham.
Devizes on course for runners-up berth
FC Devizes United v FC Lacock – H/W
For a second successive week FC Devizes United won 3 points without actually kicking a ball, last Sunday saw Chippenham Icons FC unable to raise a team to face James Stobart’s side. A week later and it is Lacock FC who due Covid and the Easter holidays short of numbers for their scheduled trip to Beversbrook.
For Lacock the walkover has handed FC Devizes the initiative in their battle with the villagers for the top flight runners up spot behind champions AFC Melksham. Devizes are now level on 19 points with Lacock, but have a better goal difference, and although both teams have a match to play, it is advantage Devizes.
