PREMIER DIVISON ROUND UP – 24 April
Draw lands Devizes runners-up spot
Semington FC 3 FC Devizes United 3
FC Devizes United started the day as firm favourites to finish the season as shoestrings-chargrill sponsored Chippenham Sunday League, Premier Division runners-up to AFC Melksham, all they had to do was beat Semington FC which was something they had already done twice this season, 10-0 and 5-0.
In their must win game things didn’t go as planned as they fought out a 3-3, leaving the door open for Lacock to claim second place, but with the villagers slipping to a 3-1 loss against Chippenham Icons it meant that Devizes point was good enough for them to claim second place.
2-1 ahead at half time through goals from Kian Fulford and Gabe Costello with Scott Boyd replying for Semington, it looked as if the second half would be plain sailing for James Stobbart’s side, but things never went quite to plan as although Stobart himself added a third for Devizes, a second goal from Boyd and an Ian Dowell effort left his team facing an anxious wait for the FC Lacock result, which in the went in their favour to allow the celebrations to begin.
Defeat costs Lacock runners-up spot
FC Lacock 1 Chippenham Icons FC 3
Although, FC Lacock would not have been aware of what would have been happening elsewhere at Little Marsh, they would have fancied their chances of getting the win over Chippenham Icons FC that would have given them the chance to finish the campaign as shoestrings-chargrill sponsored Chippenham Sunday League, Premier Division runners-up, and would have increased even more after they took the lead, but a spirited Icons fightback saw them win 3-1 and Lacock miss out on second place.
Rory Davis scored the opener for Lacock, but his effort was wiped out as Ryan Nicholls restored parity before half time.
After the break Will Baguley from a Steve Hunt assist put Icons 2-1 up and Luke Child sealed victory and a first win in four attempts over the Wiltshire Sunday Cup winners this season.
