Ashton seek to sink Lavis in Sub Cup Final
Almost a year ago Aaron Latchem guided his Lavis FC side to WG Parr Trophy success, courtesy of their 4-1 extra-time victory over The Castle FC. This Sunday afternoon will see Lavis in another Final, when they take on Steeple Ashton FC at the Gooding Accounts Stadium, home of Westbury United FC who will host the final of the Gooding Accounts sponsored Subsidiary Cup – Kick-Off 2.00pm
The match will also bring the curtain down on the 56th season of the Shoesrtings-chargrill sponsored Chippenham & District Sunday League, which after two years of disruption caused by Covid19 will be a great relief to all involved.
The competition was introduced to the League calendar in 1987 with Neston 81 beating Sutton Benger 4-0 in the inaugural final.
This is only the seventh time in the past 19 seasons that the Subsidiary Cup has been contested and was won last season by FC Pilot who defeated Beeches FC 7-4 after extra-time.
We are at last down to the final two sides of the 16 who were invited into this season’s competition, Second division, Steeple Ashton who finished the campaign in third place will start the match as underdogs, but if a large heart and bags of commitment win you matches then they have what it takes to cause a cup upset and that is despite missing the self acclaimed Best Left back in Wiltshire Tim Beecham through suspension.
In the first round Ashton needed penalties to overcome second division stable mates Calne United after the aggregate score over their 2 matches ended 5-5, Adam Gough (2), Dan Tugwell (2) and Stefan Brinzaru scoring over the 2 legs, before Gough, Brinzaru, Aaron Burbidge and Billy Wilkins-Pratt scored from the penalty spot.
After that they defeated The Pewsham FC 4-3 in the quarter-finals, courtesy of goals from Stefan Brinzaru, Aaron Burbidge, Dan Tugwell and Alex Bates.
They then avenged their WG Parr Trophy loss to the Beaches with a 1-0 triumph in the semi-finals to set up with Lavis FC today. Carl Ledbury bagging the winner with a stunning volley.

Formed in 2019 Lavis FC, managed by Aaron Latchem are named after the late Pete Lavis who passed away in October 2012. Pete had bought together a number of youngsters that joined the Sunday league back in 2010 under the name of Staverton FC.
It would be fair to say that this season’s league campaign never went to plan for Aaron Latchem and his side, who were among the favourites for promotion to the top flight but finished in fourth place in Division One.
Lavis began their cup run with an 8-2 aggregate success over fellow first division side Sutton Benger, winning the first leg 5-0 and the second being a lost closer at 3-2. Jack Sterling scored 3 in the first game, Jack Booth and Levi Wood who netted in both matches, were joined by Jamie Hancock and Kieran Plummer on the score sheet.
In the quarter-finals 2 goals each from Matt Purdy and Mark Maguire, plus singles for Matt Hall, Jamie Hancock and Aaron Latchem who bagged himself a worldie made up the 7 that saw them beat Warminster Athletic 7-2.
Audley FC stood between Lavis and a place in today’s Final, Jack Booth and a Levi Wood penalty gave them a 2-0 semi-final success to set up a meeting with Steeple Ashton and despite missing Olly Coffield, Mark Maguire and top scorer Booth they will be favourites to beat Ashton and lift a second piece of silverware in the last 12 months.

Admission to the Final is £3.00 and is Cash Payment Only
