Calne United FC 4-1 Olympic Victoria FC

OV Fall To Second Half Onslaught

Beversrbrook is the first ground to be visited in Division 1 of the CBFL and Callum Horne’s Calne United FC side got their season off to a great start with a fine 4-1 win.

Despite the win, a lacklustre first half performance and some sloppy play meant that Olympic Victoria FC deservedly went ahead when Adam Adamopolous smashed home after a long throw.

OV thought they had doubled that lead when Chris Rogers produced an exquisite finish but the goal was chalked off as he was deemed to have been offside when he received the ball.

In the second half, after a couple of changes, the real Calne United decided to turn up and it was long before David Williams restored parity with a long range effort that nestled in the far post.

Dan Lawes put United in front with a looped cross that evaded everyone and it was not long before Danny Wykes made it 3-1 after rounding the keeper and slotting home.

OV were not out of the game by any means and they forced Calne United goalkeeper into a superb double save which ultimately ensured the victory which was confirmed when Michael Taraskevics put the icing on the cake with the 4th and final goal of the match.

Griffin FC 1-1 FC Trinity

Spoils Shared At Lansdown

A tight affair between 2 of the Bath teams as Griffin FC & FC Trinity played a 1-1 draw.

All of the action took place in the first half with Storm Brand scoring for Griffin and Eliot Ball netting for Trinity

Old Road FC 1-1 Two Weir Town FC

Road Pegged Back By Weir

Another close match at Shaw Village Hall as Old Road FC played out a 1-1 draw with Two Weir Town FC of Bath.

Old Road certainly started the stronger of the 2 teams with some a tidy passing football but they were left frustrated some solid Two Weir defending. Midway through the first half a deep free kick into the box fell at Zak Sallows feet 5 yards from goal and as he was about to pull the trigger he was brought down for a penalty to Old Road. Sallows dusted himself down and took the penalty himself but it was a tame effort saved to the keepers left but Louis Harris was on hand to follow up the rebound to give Old Road a deserved lead.

Old Road pressed for the second goal but to avail and they went in 1-0 at the break.

Despite a bright start on the second half Old Road’s search for the second saw them miss twice through second half sub Adam Fahey who shot wide after racing through and not long some superb combination play from new signing Jamie Packer and Zak Sallows down the left wing who squared to younger brother Matt who couldn’t convert from close range.

Two Weir grew into the match and found themselves in the ascendancy with 20 mins to go and they really upped the pressure, causing a few problems.

It looked like Old Road were going to hang on with some resolute defending but right at the death, a corner form the right hand side into the box was headed home for 1-1 by Chris Whitaker and a share of the spoils.

Semington FC 1-7 Lavis FC

Latchem’s Lavis Hit Semington For 7

Former Premier Division side Semington FC took on last season’s Gooding Accounts Subsidiary Cup winner Lavis FC and it was the cup holders who ran out winners 1-7.

Lavis went in at half time 2 goals to the good thanks to a Jordan Pinner header and Jack Sterling finish.

Sterling completed his hattrick with 2 more goals shortly after the restart and when Jack Booth and Dan Jones added goals 5 and 6 the game was well truly up for Semington.

They did get the next goal through Richard Allum but Jono Hogarth scored the 7th and final goal to wrap up the victory for Aaron Lathem’s men.
