Premier Division Round Up – Match Week 1 – Sunday 4th September 2022
The new season is up & running in the newly merged Chippenham & Bath Football League Sponsored by Shoestrings Chargrill and there are 3 matches to bring you from the top division.
AFC Melksham 2 – 3 FC Devizes United
Devizes Stake Early Claim
Last season’s Chippenham & District League champions & runners up locked horns in the opening match of the Premier Division and the match certainly did not disappoint in the slightest.
Devizes started brightly but found Melksham keeper Adam Dinsha in great form with two early goal denying saves. It was AFC Melksham who took the initiative against the run of play through DJ Wheeler opening the scoring and moments later Zac Hiller made the score 2-0 it looked to be 1 way traffic when the half time whistle went.
It was probably feeling like one of those days when Dinsha again produced another fine save but finally Jamie Walters reduced the arrears to give FC Devizes United hope and when Charlie Strickland equalised Devizes went in at the break level at 2-2, in the ascendancy and they could smell a comeback victory.
Although Melksham did batten down the hatches, the comeback was a reality when 2 minutes from time, Gabe Costello popped up with the winner to get Devizes off to the perfect start they were looking for.
Lansdown FC 2-2 Gringos FC
Oak Solid In Season Opener
Where we had 2 former CDSFL teams battle out a thriller it was 2 former Bath & District Sunday League teams to do the same in our second match.
Lansdown FC & Gringos FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Lansdown goals from Alex Chapman & Peter Hutchinson cancelled out Zack Manna & Bailee Harrision.
Team Nathan AFC 0-7 Royal Oak FC
Stalemate In Bath
Final match of the Premier Division was the first in which 2 teams from either league faced each other and early bragging rights go to the former CDSFL as Royal Oak FC ran out resounding 0-7 winners against Team Nathan AFC.
Goals from Sam Chapman(2), Jed Kirkwood(2), Jon O’ Donovan, Brandon Simmonds and Player Manager Richard Tandy ensured the big win to start the season.
