Knockout Cup Round Up – Round 1 – Sunday 16th October
The distinct lack of league fixtures can only mean one thing and that is cup competitions taking place and this time it is the Knockout Cup newly sponsored by Cinch Storage.
Here is the round up of today’s matches.
AFC Melksham 5-2 FC Devizes United
Talmash Helps AFC Melksham Avenges League Defeat
In a game considered a battle of the Premier Division heavyweights FC Devizes started as slight favourites due to drawing first blood in the opening game of the Premier Division but today Melksham got their revenge to send Devizes packing out of the Knockout Cup.
AFC opened the scoring fifteen minutes in through Rhys Talmash but Devices responded inside a minute through Gabe Costello to go 1-1 and soon had a short spell that saw a number of missed chances whilst Adam Dhimsa pulled out a brilliant diving save to tip a fierce shot round the post.
AFC then sprung back into life and the AFC front three starting causing the Devizes defence all sorts of problems, scoring three more goals in the process through DJ Wheeler another from Talmash and Seth Wain ensuring they went in at the break with a healthy 4-1 advantage.
With Devizes currently top of the Premier Division nothing was to be taken for granted and this was proved on the sixty minute mark as Charlie Strickland made it 4-2 and there would have been thoughts of a comeback being on the cards but AFC stayed resolute in defence marshalled by George Bettles.
And to top off his weekend Talmash got his second hat trick(after scoring three yesterday for Devizes Town against Melksham Reserves) in what was a great team performance against a very good Devizes team.
Audley FC 7-5 Semington FC
Audley Go through After Twelve Goals Extravaganza
An absolute belter of a match at Leafy Lane between Audley FC and Semington as they shared new fewer than twelve goals in the cup tie.
Semington made the brighter start and found themselves three goals to the good in pretty quick fashion, Kieran Halliday scoring a quickfire double and Alex Shaftoe dispatched a penalty but there was enough time for Jamal Chevelleau to reduce the arrears before halftime.
Jake Abbot then made the gap back at the three goal margin before another from Chevelleau increased his tally once again and brought Audley back to 2-4.
When Kieran Faraday fired home his hattrick it seemed that it might be enough for the Division 1 side but Audley then fired five unanswered goals to ensure the comeback was complete.
Chevelleau completed his hattrick, Michel Jenkins scored twice, Charlie Austin & Robbie Burton scored the others to cap this remarkable comeback.
FC Box 11-0 The Pewsham FC
Division 3 Pewsham No Match For Box
Despite their own bright start in Division 3, the power of Division 1 FC Box was too much for The Pewsham as they suffered a devastating loss to find themselves out of the Knockout Cup.
Adam Mitchell started the scoring and Andy Wilkins doubled that lead shortly after. Spencer Dymond-Hall got in on the act and it was looking like a long afternoon for Pewsham when number four was scored around midway through the first half via Ben Wickens.
Two more was to follow before the break, Toby Gingell getting his name on the scoresheet before a second from Wickens meant it was half a dozen when the halftime whistle sounded.
There was no let up for Pewsham and despite a valliant effort through out the 90 minutes Dymon-Hall was again on target before Wickens not only grabbed his hattrick but brought his total up to five for the day and double figures on the board for Box.
Ross Hall scored the eleventh and final goal before the final whistle was sounded by Dominic Mortimer.
Kingsmead FC 2-2 Hourglass FC
Kingsmead Win 6-5 After Penalties
Kingsmead Scrape Through To Next Round
Despite two divisions separating these sides, Premier Division Kingsmead are in the hat for the next round after a penalty shootout win against Hourglass.
It was one apiece at the break Daniel Sibley netting for the visitors Brad Norris for the hosts and it was history repeating itself in the second half as another goal each making it 2-2, Sibley again for Hourglass and substitute Ant Conradi ensuring this match went all the way.
It was Hourglass who were the unlucky team on this occasion meaning Kingsmead are through to the next round.
Lansdown 5-2 Kingfisher FC
Simpkins To The Rescue For Tie To Go Ahead
Both teams are indebted to Kingfisher Player Manager Chris Simkins who took the whistle for the 90 minutes to ensure that this tie went ahead as planned despite both teams unable to supply a linesman.
Both teams were very honest in their approach and it was Lansdown who took the lead through Will Hardy and this is how it remained until halftime.
They were soon two goals good after the break when Ryan Metcalfe doubled that lead but Adam Leveridge then made it 1-2 after some string hold up play from Ed Baldwin who then cut the ball across for Leveridge’s finish.
Metcalfe then scored his second of the match and Ryan Elliot then essentially put this game beyond doubt as he made it 4-1 to the hosts although when a Henry Garroway shot was saved it rebounded off of a Lansdown defender and into the back of the net for 4-2.
Jack Sale then sealed the victory with the fifth and final goal for Lansdown.
Lansdown Reserves FC 3-7 Lavis FC
Valliant Effort From Division 3 Side In Vain
Division 3 Lansdown Reserves really put in an excellent effort and will ultimately have to be happy with the final score by the time the full time whistle went.
It was a tight first half but Lavis did find themselves two goals to the good Kieran Plummer netting the first and Olly Sterling the second.
A flurry of second half goals put this tie beyond doubt Jordan Pinder, Matt Purdy and Jack Sterling alongside an own goal sandwiched in the middle making for a 0-6 scoreline which was a little unfair on the hosts.
Lansdown Reserves did finally get a couple of goals their endeavour deserved however scoring twice through Jake Banks and although a Matt Purdy penalty made seven for Aaron Latchem’s men there was time for James Jones to get Lansdown Reserves third and final goal of the day.
Scoop FC 9-0 Forest Renegades FC
Scoop On Cloud Nine After Cup Win
An emphatic win for the Premier Division side as the scored nine unanswered goals that put paid to their Division 2 opponents.
There were two hattricks, one for Eddie Summers and another for Adam Butterworth, Rory Davis scored a brace and Charlie Street finished off the scoring.
Spires Athletic FC 4-2 PF Loco FC
Upset Of The Day At Beversbrook
Spires Athletic’s fine start to the season continued as they arguably produced the upset of the day in beating Premier Division PF Loco.
It was one apiece at the break, Nico Inglis for the visitors and Macauley Chamberlain scoring for the hosts.
But the second half essentially went 3-1 to the hosts as Zachary Bruce scored an excellent hattrick despite Si Smith getting a second goal for PF Loco.
Sutton Benger 1-7 Old Road FC
Another Day To Forget For Benger
Sutton Benger need to get a hold of their defensive frailties as they are shipping goals at an alarming rate and they were defeated here, albeit by a team a division higher in Old Road by seven goals to one.
As has been the case it was a fairly tight affair in the first half with the visitors probably edging the better of the play and they eventually went in at the break with a 1-3 lead, Adam House, Zak Swallows and Hugo Skelhorn for the visitors, James Weston rising highest at a corner to reduce the arrears.
The next goal was bound to be the game changer and when Adam Sullivan netted after a skewed goal line clearance this seemed to batter the resolve of the hosts.
Three more goals followed via Sam Whittock and a brace from substitute Matthew Sallows.
The British Lion FC 14-1 Keynsham Rangers FC
Lion Annihilate Sorry Keynsham
Despite only one division between the teams there was a clear gulf in quality as sorry Keynsham were played off the park in this cup match against British Lion.
There were two first half hattrick heroes through Robbie White & Chris Jenkins and it was 8-0 at the break as two more goals were scored through Scott Stroud and Jon Webb.
Despite a consolation goal scored by Nathan Jessop, Lion ploughed another six goals in the second half, Jon Webb with his second of the match, Florentin Bancioaga, Player Manager Niall Choularton got in on the act, Darren Lewis and finally an Ash Huntley scored the final two goals of the morning for the emphatic victory.
Weston Village FC 2-1 Warminster Athletic FC
Village Upset Their Division 2 Opponents
Despite a division between this fixtures teams it was an extremely tight affair that ended in somewhat of an upset as Weston Village pulled through with a victory against Warminster Athletic.
Such was the tightness of this fixture that there were no goals to report from the first 45 minutes and they were all scored in the second period, Kian Marklew for the visitors, George Truckle and Myles Lofthouse putting Weston into the next round.
