Wiltshire FA Sunday Cup Round Up – Round 2 – Sunday 2nd October
This Sunday brought the next round of County Cup matches. Here we bring you the round up of all CBFL representatives in the competition.
Corsham Rovers FC 5-3 Kingfisher FC
Rovers With Cup Upset
This match provided an the first upset of the day as CBFL Division 3 side Corsham Rovers took the match by five goals to three in an entertaining match at Leafy Lane.
Owen Thompson scored twice including one from the penalty spot, a brace from Morgan Akerman and a goal from Shaun Mitchell completed the five for the hosts.
Kingfisher’s replies came from Shaun Paradise, Josh Madle and an own goal.
The British Lion FC 4-2 Old Road FC
Second Upset Of The Day At Green Lane
The second upset of the went the way of the Lion as the team from Division 2 won 4-2 against their opponents from the division above.
Lion raced into a four nil halftime advantage thanks to a hattrick from Jake Waters and an Own Goal.
Despite a spirited fightback of sorts in the second half, Old Road could only muster the two goals through Adam Sullivan & Sam Whittock to exit the County Cup in Round Two.
Semington FC 2-3 AFC Melksham
Neighbours Play Out A Cracker
Little Marsh was the setting for one of the matches of the day as neighbours Semington FC & AFC Melksham played out a five goal thriller.
It was Melksham who opened the scoring on the fifteen minute mark when DJ Wheeler held of the challenges of a couple of Semington defenders before firing a low hard shot into the bottom corner.
Semington were nearly back in the match shortly after when they hit the bar from distance but it was Melksham who were piling on sustained pressure and they doubled their lead with about half an hour on the clock through a Lee Hemsworth header which saw them through to half time.
Shortly after the restart, that man DJ Wheeler was there again to add his second and Melksham’s third but then a moment of madness saw not one but two Melksham players into the sin bin and they were suddenly down to nine men.
Despite some solid defending Semington, realising their chance took full advantage, making it 1-3 via a Luke Whittard strike and then shortly after Alex Shaftoe reduced the arrears further and it was game on.
Semington could not get that all important equaliser to force penalties and when the two players returned from the sin bin, Melksham looked much more assured and saw the game out to put their name in the hat for the next round.
Biddestone Athletic FC 0-10 Lavis FC
Hatttrick Of Hattricks Send Lavis Through
It was a great day at the office for Aaron Latchem’s Lavis FC as they hit double figures against Biddestone Athletic without reply.
Jack Booth had the pleasure of opening the scoring early on and the signs of a big win were there when Matt Purdy scored the second with barely ten minutes on the watch.
Richard Coleman added number three before Purdy grabbed his second and Lavis’ fourth by the half hour mark and there was still time for two more before the break through Stefan Brinzaru and Booth once again.
Although not quite as deflating as the first half for Biddestone, three of those scorers went on to claim one of the match balls and first up was Booth shortly after the restart for some sort of bragging rights over his goalscoring teammates.
Brinzaru made it eight before Purder then claimed his hattrick allowing the former, Brinzaru to also complete Lavis’ third hattrick hero of the day.
Calne United 0-16 Audley FC
Top Ten Hit For Chevelleau
It was a day to forget for Calne United at Beversbrook but one to remember for Audley, in particular Jemal Chevellau as he had more than hand in this mammoth victory.
Chevellau scored no fewer than ten goals to boost his tally of being Audley’s golden boot winner this season and he was helped by Gareth Jones who scored a normally impressive four himself and the result was finished off by Matty Harvey & Karl Sharret.
Warminster Athletic FC 2-5 Royal British Legion (Tidworth) FC
RBL Come Out On Top
Warminster were dumped out of the cup by their opponents from Tidworth as Royal British Legion took this match 2-5.
Adam Clark & Noah Millard scored Athletic’s goals but they ultimately exit the cup in Round Two.
Trowbridge Athletic 4-7 Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC
Fox Win Absolute Humdinger
An amazing nine goals of the eleven were scored in the first half of this thoroughly entertaining match at Notton House.
The match finished 4-7 thanks to goals from Stokes(2), Hotine, Fearon, Snook, Collyer & Kitley.
Jacob Thwaites(2), Nzaar Gamir & Charlie Watson scored Trowbridge’s four.
Sutton Benger FC 0-5 Westbury Celtic
Celtic Cruise Into The Next Round
Westbury Celtic made the trip to Sutton Benger Recreational Ground and left with a resounding victory to put them in the draw for Round Three.
Despite what the score line suggests, it was a competitive affair but Benger were undone by a notorious slow start and found themselves behind after five minutes when Tyler Gane tucked away the first effort of the match.
Celtic then doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Dave
Peacock’s innocuous long-range effort was fumbled by Benger Goalkeeper Dan Hughes and over the line.
Despite this, Benger were very much in the game and were carving out plenty of opportunities without testing the goalkeeper and it remained 0-2 until the break.
Again in the second half, a slow start put paid to any hopes Benger had of mounting a comeback as a poor free kick ricocheted off of the wall but the Beneger defenders were slow to react seemingly just watching the ball onto the foot of Gane to slot home Celtic’s third.
Peacock got his second of the game shortly after and the match was finalised as a contest around the 70 minute mark when Aaron Knowles followed on up a saved shot to gobble up the rebound to give Celtic a convincing score line.
Hourglass FC 2-3 FC Box FC
Slight Scare For Division 1 Box
FC Box of CBFL Division 1 were given somewhat of a scare by their Division 2 counterparts as they narrowly won by the odd goal in five against Hourglass FC.
Adam Mitchell opened the scoring for the first half and a first goal of the season for last season’s Division 2 Top Goalscorer Spencer Dymond-Hall made it seem like it was gong to be an easy day at the office for last season’s division & cup double winners.
However, arrears were reduced when Zak Messenger struck for Hourglass and it was most certainly game on with the half time score at 1-2.
The next goal was bound to be crucial and so it proved as that man, Dymond-Hall struck for the visitors in the second half to restore the two goal cushion and although a Cullen Wylie goal meant it was a nail biting finale, Box held on for safe passage into the next round.
