Benger Stem The Goals But Spires Go Top
Sutton Benger put in gutsy performance to ensure that they gave new table toppers Spires were given a match in this match that was rearranged to Stanley Park.
You would have been forgiven for thinking the writing was on the wall and another heavy defeat was on the cards when Aiden Jackson scored in the first couple of minutes but Benger stuck to their game plan and managed to hold Spires to balls into the box from distance.
Chances were beginning to be created at the other end and Ollie Derrick should of probably made it 1-1 but saw an effort saved and it remained 1-0 until the break.
Two quickfire goals from Luke Reynolds & Dylan Hatt seemingly put the match but Benger were creating openings as the match wore on and when Samuel Wallis intentionally tripped Tom Morland on the edge of the area when through on goal, Ryan Mann had no alternative to brandish the red card. Benger’s hope was further renewed when Harry Ryan’s free kick was fired through the wall an in to reduce the areas.
The pressure was now coming from Benger and that pressure was rewarded when James Hernandez bundled home his first goals of the season following a save from his first effort.
But to Spires credit, they expertly saw out the final five minutes of the match to go top of the league.
