Whiteway FC 4-1 The Pewsham FC

Whiteway Maintain Challenge On Rovers

It was your typical British weather on an early Sunday morning at Odd Down, with third placed Whiteway hosting The Pewsham who started the day second in the league. This weekend both teams took the knee in honour of Black History Month.

The early exchanges were scrappy to start with but Whiteway seemed to be gaining the upper hand when Connor Scarrott made a brilliant challenge, winning the ball in midfield before unleashing a powerful effort that rocketed into the top right corner for 1-0 much to the delight of those in attendance

The game continued to be scrappy and did not really open up as you may have thought a goal would have brought to the game, pretty more akin to a game of tennis with lots of back and forth by the time the half time whistle sounded.

There was much to be said by Whiteway manager Taelor Bowen & coach Prince Sharka and they rang with Brad Matthews on for Ashley Scott and Jack Lewington replacing Ashton Muir.

And the changes seemed to have an instant impact as Whiteway started the second half quickly with Lewington starting to pull the strings in the middle of the park, putting Mulholland though with a brilliant pass before an outrageous Mulholland back heal to Gary Jones who was bundled down for a penalty which Mulholland slotted it home calmly for 2-0.

Pewsham started to try and fight back with their long throws and set pieces resulting in them hitting the crossbar on a couple of occasions but in chasing the goal that would get them back into the contest, Whiteway turned the tables when a brilliant clearing header from Billy Turner found its way to Mulholland on the halfway line before running 20 yards down the field to grab Whiteway’s third.

Pewsham still did not give up though and they got a goal they deserved when another powerful drive from Aaron Burbidge found its way in to the back of the net to make it 3-1

Pewsham could not find any more magic to make this game a bit more nervous for Whiteway and as the game was petering out, Rich Quick put Gary Jones in on goal to finish the game 4-1.
