Somerset FA Sunday Challenge Cup Round Up – Round 2 – Sunday 23rd October 2022
Round 2 of the Somerset FA Sunday Challenge Cup sponsored by GreensWard Sports Consultancy with three fixtures that went ahead involving CBFL Teams.
FC Trinity 5 -0 Burnham United FC
Big Win For FC Trinity
CBFL Division 1 side FC Trintiy put their Bridgwater & District Sunday Football League opponents Burnham United to the sword with a fine 5-0 victory.
Tom Lakeman opened the scoring and it was 2-0 at the break thanks to Sam Mason.
After the break, three goals in quick succession through Drew Lovelock, Kean Hayward & Felix Squire completed the victory.
Farrington Albion FC 4-1 Lansdown FC
Albion Defy League Form In Major Upset
As the headline suggests, despite only one league win from five matches in Division 2, Farrington Albion upset the odds against their Premier Division Bath rivals to progress into Round 3.
Aaron Whittock opened the scoring with around twenty minutes on the clock and although Tom Green pulled a goal back for the visitors, Luke Tucker ensured Albion went in at the break with the lead.
And from there Albion took control of the match as a second of the game from Tucker made it 3-1 before Oliver Smith put the game beyond the reach of Lansdown.
Kingsmead AFC 14-0 Keynsham Rangers FC
Divisional Gap Evident In Big Win
Despite a valiant effort from Keynsham Rangers of Division 3 the difference in quality was clear to see as it was the Premier Division Kingsmead who came out on top in this one by quite some margin.
Charlie Wiles-Richards hit four, Jed Benjamin three and a pair of braces from Anthony Conradi & Charlie Saunders as well as singles for James Payton, Ryan Rudland & Christian Simioni made it 14-0 to the hosts.
Lansdown Reserves FC 4-1 Team Nathan AFC
Reserves Take Scalp Of Premier Division Side
Although the first team did not fair too well in the County Cup, their reserve side did the opposite and produced a shock result with a 4-1 over Premier Division Team Nathan.
Luke Priddle & Jake Banks scored a goal each and Harry Banks grabbed two for Lansdown Reserves whilst Leyton Sharp scored the consolation goal for Team Nathan.
Staplegrove Veterans FC 4-3 Two Wier Town FC
Wier Unlucky But Exit
Staplegrove Veterans of the Somerset FA Legends League used all of their experience to pass through to the next round of the Somerset FA Sunday Challenge Cup against CBFL’s Two Wier Town.
It was the away side who took the lead through Jason Warlock but they were pegged back to 2-1 but Ross Kirk equalised for 2-2 which it remained at the break.
Connor MacDonald made it 3-3 after Staplegrove took the lead once again and their fourth and final gol proved one too far for Two Wier to pull back.
Weston Village FC 0-0 Woolavington FC(4-5 After Penalties)
Village Dupmed Out On Penalties
A very rare occurrence in any Sunday League Football match where CBFL’s Weston Village played out a nil-nil draw with their opponents from the Bridgwater & District Sunday Football League, Woolavington FC.
However, they were to be cruelly denied, losing the penalty shootout 4-5 and exiting the competition.
Whiteway FC 4-0 New Foresters FC
Whiteway Progress With Comfort
Whiteway FC were also to face someone from out of the CBFL and they did the league no harm with a comfortable 4-0 win at home to New Foresters of the Bridgewater & District Sunday Football League.
Ty Mulholland continued his fine form with the opening goal of the game whilst Cam New doubled that lead for the hosts.
An own goal put the game to bed before Tyler Matthews completed the scoring for the 4-0 score line.
