Memorial Cup Round Up – Match Week 22 – Sunday 19th February
MEMORIAL CUP -SEMI FINALS
PREMIER DIVISION CLUBS PROGRESS TO FINAL
PF Loco FC 2 Hourglass FC 1
In a feisty PJL Rail Services Ltd sponsored Memorial Cup Semi-Final clash between Premier Division PF Loco FC and promotion chasing Second Division Hourglass FC, two first half goals from PF Loco were enough to overcome the single goal from Hourglass and give them a 2-1 success.
Five yellow cards between the teams and a sin bin for each team showed the tension of the two teams.
Nico Inglis and Sam Espley scoring for PF Loco with Jamie Hall replying for Hourglass.
PF Loco must have been encouraged by the result as they go into their Somerset County Cup semi-final next Sunday with another home tie against Taunton based Mariners FC of the Somerset Sunday Football League.
Trowbridge Athletic FC 0 FC Devizes United 6
Premier Division, FC Devizes United went into their PJL Rail Services Ltd sponsored Memorial Cup semi-final as firm favourites against Division Three Trowbridge Athletic.
Devizes were however made to work hard in the first half against the young Trowbridge team despite having most of the play and hitting the bar twice.
Devizes finally broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when a delightful lob over the keeper from Keiron Gleed gave Devizes the lead.
It was a further 20 minutes before Devizes scored again from a turn and shot by Jamie Walters.
Devizes going in at half time with a 2-0 lead.
After the break, Trowbridge again frustrated their opponents with Azad Ozdilek having a man of the match game for the home team.
An unfortunate bad back pass in the 58th minute was swiftly turned into a goal as Jamie Walters pounced for his second and a 3-0 lead.
Ten minutes later Gabe Costello added a fourth.
As the youngsters tired Charlie Strickland added a fifth goal and in the 85th minute after a nice run Jamie Walters completed his hat trick to give Devizes a 6-0 win as they progress to the Final to meet PF Loco.
As both teams have yet to meet in the league it is difficult to try to predict an outcome for what is likely to be an entertaining game.
