Division One Round Up – Match Week 21 – Sunday 12th February
IMPRESIVE BOX CLAIM 9TH STRAIGHT WIN TO MOVE TOP
Beeches FC 1 FC Box 7
After a 3-1 away defeat to their opponents earlier in the season, Beeches FC were looking to dent the unbeaten record of FC Box in their home game.
They certainly got off to a great start when Steve Ball fired home after a defensive mix up. Box gradually got back into the game and after 13 minutes were awarded a penalty. Adam Mitchell’s strike was however well saved by the Beeches keeper Frankie McEntegart.
A minute later Box had the ball in the net but the goal was disallowed. Beeches continued to be dangerous on the break and Box seemed to fail with the final pass.
After 35 minutes Adam Mitchell did find the back of the net after some nice interplay. Four minutes later Box took the lead thanks to a superb long range left footed shot from Spencer Diamond-Hall.
Both teams had early chances in the second half, and with the next goal being all important, it finally arrived and it was Box’s third goal from Adam Shipman in the 56th minute that changed the game.
Beeches claimed that a Box player had handled the ball, but the referee did not agree. Beeches’ heads seemed to drop as did their ability to deal with the pace of Ben Wickens and Spencer Diamond-Hall.
Two minutes later Adam Mitchell claimed his second and Box’s fourth goal after great work by Ben Wickens who ten minutes later scored himself as the lead increased to 5-0.
Box continued to dominate as Andy Woods added two late goals to give Box a deserved 7-1 win.
FC Trinity 0 Old Road FC 3
Six successive wins has kept Old Road FC in the top four. Their latest a 3-0 away victory at Bath based Trinity FC whom they narrowly beat 2-1 at home in the reverse fixture last November.
Leading 1-0 at half time a solid second half performance gave them the points. Aaron Holbrook, Adam Sullivan and Sam Whittock scoring for the visitors.
Olympic Victoria FC 2 Griffin FC 2
With a run of recent good form, Olympic Victoria FC must have hoped to reverse the 4-0 defeat they suffered on their visit to opponents Griffin FC.
They could not however maintain their 2-1 half time lead as Griffin fought back and helped by their opponents being reduced to ten men, to share the points with a 2-2 draw.
Ben Lee scoring twice for Victoria with Max Weston replying twice for Griffin.
Two Weir Town FC 4 Semington FC 2
Neither Two Weir Town FC or Semington FC had been unable to score in the reverse fixture last year, so Two Weir who had suffered recent heavy defeats in recent weeks were delighted that they found their scoring boots and their form as they scored twice in each half to better their visitors single goal in each to claim a 4-2 success.
Joseph Gardner, Ewan White, Daniel Roberts along with Semington own goal made up the hosts quartet as Alexander Shaftoe responded twice for the visitors, however his efforts were in vain as Two Weir Town claimed a fifth win of the season.
