NO SUNDAY CUP JOY FOR LEAGUE THIS SEASON

ROUND 4 -SUNDAY 4 December 2022

Early December was a successful day for three of the Chippenham & Bath Sunday League sides who remained in the Wiltshire FA Sunday Cup.

The British Lion FC v Tidworth Town Youth FC

Unfortunately The British Lion failed to roar as Tidworth ran out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Justin Bennett, Callum Sweeney and substitute Greg Peel.

FC Devizes United v Gorse Hill Borough FC

FC Devizes United had a comfortable 9-1 win against their Swindon based opponents. Goals came from a Kian Fulford hat trick, along with two each for Keiron Gleed and Declan McStravic. Gabe Costello and Simon Gale also scoring.

Scoop FC v AFC Melksham

In an all shoestrings-sponsored Chippenham & Bath Football League tie, high flying Premier leaders Scoop who had beaten their Premier opponents 6-0 earlier in the season were brought down to earth as Melksham took as 2-0 half time lead with goals from Joe Lamb and Zac Hillier. Some resolute defending with George Bettles at the heart of the defence ensured Melksham progressed to the Quarter Finals.

D3lta FC v FC Box

FC Box’s journey to their Swindon Sunday League opponents became worthwhile as they also progressed to the Quarter Final on penalties after the game ended 1-1. D3lta had taken a half time lead through Jake Tyson. Adam Mitchell levelled for Box in the second half. Box won the penalty shoot out 4-2.

QUARTER FINALS Sunday 8 January 2023

With the league boasting last season’s Sunday Cup winners in the guise of the now defunct FC Lacock, they start of 2023 was a disappointing one for our teams, as all three of our remaining sides made an earlier than hoped exit.

AFC Melksham v AFC Mannington

An exciting end to end game which finished 5-5. AFC Melksham’s Jack Baker and Rhys Talmarsh both scoring twice and an own goal from their Swindon Sunday League opponents. Mannington goals coming from a Kieran O’Daly brace, Joe English, Bailey Gallagher and Louis O’Shea. After losing at the Semi-Final stage last year to eventual winners FC Lacock, Melksham suffered heartache once again as Mannington progressed to the semi-finals winning the penalty shootout 5-4.

FC Box v Tidworth Town Youth FC

A hard-fought game against strong opposition ended FC Box’s progress as they went down 6-3 to Tidworth who are many people’s favourites to go on and lift the cup as they did a few seasons ago. Ben Wickens and substitutes Daniel King and Liam Ralph scoring for Box.

Tidworth replying from braces by Robbie Owen and Greg Peel, Justin Bennett and Callum Sweeney scoring one each.

29 January 2023

FC Devizes United v Jovial Monk FC

In what was a delayed Quarter Final tie, FC Devizes United who reached the Semi- Final stage last term became the third and last of the League based teams to fall at this hurdle in a match that should have been played at the start of the month. The Swindon side taking the game 4-1 from an out of sorts Devizes. Two goals from Jonathan Peachey-Score, one each for Robert Lincoln and Kristopher Redford gave Jovial Monk the advantage, Gabe Costello replying for Devizes.
