MATCH DAY 11 -Sunday 20 November 2022

Westbury Celtic FC v Sutton Benger FC – H/W

With Sutton Benger FC unable to raise a team, their match was awarded to Westbury Celtic.

Kingfisher FC 4 v Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 3

On a windy Sunday at Buckley Barracks, hosts Kingfisher battled back from a two-goal deficit to snatch the points with a 4-3 win over visitors Fox & Hounds (Warminster).

Fox & Hounds who regard Kingfisher as somewhat of a bogey team, were by far the more dominant side at the start despite being against the prevailing wind. It was no surprise therefore when after 12 minutes Fox & Hounds took the lead when Taylor Kitley’s excellent cross from the right was fired home by Jayson Stokes.

Despite the away team’s dominance Kingfisher spurned the chance to equalise when their striker clean through on goal shot narrowly wide, Fox & Hounds increased their lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute when Taylor Kitley scored after a scramble in the Kingfisher goalmouth.

Despite further pressure, Fox & Hounds could not add to their lead and were made to pay with half time approaching. From a long George Garraway free kick well inside his own half the Fox & Hounds defence seemed to watch as the ball sailed into the net untouched. The half time score gave Fox & Hounds a 2-1 lead.

Again Fox & Hounds started brightly and after 57 minutes went 3-1 in front as Callum Hotine scored. Kingfisher however are not a side to give up and gradually began to cause the Fox & Hounds defence problems. In the 69th minute Henry Gallaway outpaced the defence to score and reduce the deficit to 3-2. Two minutes later from another ball over the defence Adam Loveridge drew Kingfisher level as he beat the keeper with a neat shot.

Fox & Hounds were now on the back foot as Kingfisher sensed the game was theirs to win. Adam Loveridge with his second goal in the 79th minute took Kingfisher into a 4-3 lead.

Fox & Hounds now began to dominate as they sought an equaliser but, had difficulty controlling their passes with the wind behind them. Kingfisher held on to the final whistle for a 4-3 win in a very entertaining game to watch and played in a very good spirit by both teams. New to the League, Referee Matt Nash had an excellent game.

Farrington Albion FC 4 v Forest Renegades FC 5

After holding a 3-2 half time lead, Farrington Albion who had lost both their previous home games this month, went down again, losing 5-4 against Forest Renegades, following a strong second half performance from the visitors. MATCH DAY 16 – Sunday 8 January 2023

Warminster Athletic FC 4 v Forest Renegades FC 4

Two goals from Ben Bullus and goals from Ethan Green and Dan walker for the home team. Bradley Godridge had opened the scoring for Renegades with two second half goals from Tom A’Court including the final equaliser and a Nathan Baines goal rounded up the visitors goals.

Kingfisher FC 3 v Westbury Celtic FC 1

Kingfisher took the points in their first game of 2023 at a cold and blustery morning at their Hullavington pitch in a game where the match was much closer than the final score of 3-1 suggested.

Kingfisher did start the brighter of the two teams and took an early lead when Adam Loveridge scored. As the half wore on both teams battled with the conditions but Westbury began to dominate. Westbury however could not find the finishing touch to equalise and went in at half time 1-0 down.

Again, at the start of the second half Westbury began to take control and only some resilient defending by the Kingfisher defence kept them in front. Eventually Westbury equalised in the 78th minute when Christopher Steele scored after another goalmouth scramble. This seemed to galvanise Kingfisher who seemed determined to restore their lead which they did in the 86th minute as Henry Galloway fired home after a defensive mistake. The game then went from end to end as Westbury sought to draw level but committed another error giving away a penalty.

Henry Galloway took the penalty but was denied initially by a fine save from the keeper who could only push the ball back into play. The penalty taker was the quickest to react and prodded the ball home to give Kingfisher a 3-1 advantage. Westbury tried hard to score but the game ended with a Kingfisher 3-1 win. Both sides played the game in a very sportsmanlike manner.

Young Referee Grace Dickens had an excellent game in the middle.

Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 3 Audley FC 3

Fox & Hounds (Warminster) staged a thrilling second half comeback to claim a 3-3 draw against title chasers Audley FC.  The points eventually went to neither team as shortly after the final whistle and due to the lack of commitments from many of their players Audley made the shock decision to withdraw from the League.

MATCH DAY 19 – Sunday 29 January 2023

Sutton Benger FC v The British Lion FC – A/W

For a third time this season Sutton Benger FC were unable to raise a team, opponents The British Lion being awarded the 3 points.

Spires Athletic FC 3 v Kingfisher FC 2

Spires had to come from 2-1 down to maintain their unbeaten league record against a battling performance from Kingfisher. Having won the reverse fixture by a single goal once again Kingfisher made their opponents work hard for the win. First half strikes from Henry Garraway and Adam Loveridge for Kingfisher as the home team’s Joshua Bolwell, Robert Burton and substitute Kieran Tarrant narrowly outscored the visitors.

Forest Renegades FC 3 v Farrington Albion FC 5

Having gone down 5-4 at home in the reverse fixture last November, Farrington gained their revenge with a 5-3 away win after leading 2-1 at half time. They were helped by a Corey Rawlings hat trick and goals from Luke Tucker and Bradley Whittock. Renegades’ response coming from Nathan Baines, Ryan Godridge and William Harford.

Westbury Celtic FC 1 v Fox & Hounds (Warminster) 3

MATCH DAY 20 – Sunday 5 February 2023

Sutton Benger FC 4 v Warminster Athletic FC 3

For the first ten minutes it seemed as though it would be an easy high scoring victory for Sutton Benger as they bombarded the Warminster Athletic goal. Having had at least five clear cut chances they finally took the lead in the 9th minute from a Josh Hard strike. This seemed to be a wake-up call for Warminster who three minutes later equalised through Stefan Aland.

Benger began to get on top and after 21 minutes Adam Welch restored their lead. Again Warminster took the game to Benger and six minutes later equalised when Darius Gait scored. Play was then end to end but the score remained level at half time.

Warminster were clearly the brighter of the two teams at the start of the second half and for the first time took the lead when Noah Millard scored after 58 minutes.

This seemed to spark Benger who began to dominate play. Some stout defending denied Benger an equaliser until the 82nd minute when Adam Welch scored his second of the day.

Warminster must have though they had secured a point as time ran down. Benger then hit the crossbar with the ball dropping on the line. Despite vigorous appeals for a goal, referee Peter Lowe who was having an excellent game, was close enough to see that the whole ball had not crossed the line.

Benger’s disappointment was short lived as in the final minute Ollie Castignetti scored to give them a 4-3 victory much to the disappointment of the visitors. Both teams are to be congratulated for the way they approached what was a very entertaining game.

Spires Athletic FC 5 v Farrington Albion FC 1

League leaders Spires Athletic FC maintained their unbeaten league run with a comfortable 5-1 home win against in form Farrington Albion after holding a narrow 2-1 lead at half time.

Daniel Jenkins first half strike was not enough to stop Spires progress as two goals from Samuel McFarlane, and goals from Hadyn Campbell, Robert Sandiford and Dylan Hatt gave them the points.

Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 3 v Hourglass FC 1

Fox & Hounds (Warminster) pulled off the surprise result of the weekend as they continued their recent good form by bringing the unbeaten league run of Hourglass to an end.

Two goals from Beau Blakeman and another for substitute Jake Owen were too much for Hourglass for whom Daniel Sibley netted in their 3-1 loss.

Forest Renegades FC 3 v Westbury Celtic FC 4

A strong second half from the visitors Westbury Celtic who had trailed 3-2 at half time, resulted in a much needed 4-3 win for the visitors to maintain their push for promotion.

Two goals from James Cox, along with Charlie Barber and substitute Kieran Boyle overcoming the first half strikes of Ryan Godridge and two from Nathan Baines for the Forest Renegades who have had some very close games recently.
