Division Two Round Up – Match Week 27 – Sunday 26th March
FISHERMEN ARE LION TAMERS
Kingfisher FC 1 The British Lion FC 0
Kingfisher FC welcomed unbeaten Division Two leaders British Lion FC to their Buckley Barracks home and provided one of the surprises of the day with a 1-0 win to put a dent in British Lion’s title hopes after a disappointing defeat in last weeks’ Knockout Cup Semi Final.
Having beaten Kingfisher 3-0 back in early October, British Lion must have hoped for a return to their League form.
It was however Kingfisher who took the game to Lion and after just seven minutes took the lead when Adam Loveridge headed home. Gradually Lion came back into the game but the score remained the same at half time.
After some early forays into the Lion half, Kingfisher were put under pressure by the visitors.
Resolute defending by the Kingfisher defence and several great saves from keeper Mark de Souza kept Lion at bay. Their attempt to get back in the game suffered in the 80th minute when a Red Card reduced them to ten men for a professional foul denying Kingfisher a potential goal.
This somewhat dented the Lion pressure as Kingfisher held on for a 1-0 win.
Hourglass FC 3 Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 0
With British Lion’s defeat, Hourglass are certainly back in the mix for honours as they beat another top four team, in Fox & Hounds (Warminster) 3-0 at Nursteed Road. After leading 1-0 at half time, they added two more in the second half without reply.
Chris Allen scored twice along with another from Daniel Sloan to complete the scoring for the home team. Upcoming games with Spires, and two with British Lion will no doubt determine the top places in the division.
