Subsidiary Cup – First Round – First Leg Reports – 12th March

SUBSIDIARY CUP TIES LEAVE EVERYTHING TO PLAY FOR

Farringdon Albion FC 4 Biddestone Athletic FC 2

The First Round of this season F.W. Jones & Son Funeral Directors sponsored Subsidiary Cup will see Second division Farringdon Albion take a narrow two goal lead into their away leg in two weeks time with Third division Biddestone Athletic. Leading 2-0 at half time Farringdon scored two more in the second half. Aaron Whittock, Luke Turner, Bradley Whittock and Ryan Clark on target.

Biddestone however responded with two goals of their own in the second half from Scott Jones and Kurt Baston to leave the tie nicely balanced.

FC Trinity 1 Royal Oak FC 2

Premier Division strugglers Royal Oak gave themselves a small one goal advantage for their home leg later this month as they beat Division one FC Trinity 2-1 at Lansdown.

Both teams were level 1-1 at half time but Royal Oak scored again in the second to claim the advantage. Will Musgrove and Cameron Lee scoring for Royal Oak with Ricky McCaffery responding for Trinity.

Another tie nicely balanced for the second leg.

Griffin FC 4 Lansdown FC 1

With both teams struggling in their respective divisions. Top flight team Lansdown gave themselves a mountain to climb in the second leg, going down 4-1 to first division Griffin FC.

A Lansdown own goal opened the scoring and Matthew Pawley got Griffin’s second before Craig Rogers pulled one back for Lansdown. Howard Dennis then gave the home team a 3-1 half time lead. Matthew Pawley then scored again to give Griffin a 4-1 win and a buffer for the second leg.

Lavis FC 4 Beeches FC 0

After a goalless first half between First division stablemates Lavis FC and Beeches, the latter conceded four goals in the second half to the current Subsidiary Cup holds to make their home leg later this month difficult.

Substitute Ben Tylee opened the scoring for Lavis in the second half, Matthew Purdue added a second before an Owen Hunter own goal extended their lead and Jordan Pinder scored the fourth.

Having beaten their opponents twice at home Lavis will no doubt be confident of progressing.

Corsham Rovers FC 3 Trowbridge Athletic FC 2

With the Trowbridge Athletic originally scheduled to host Third division rivals Corsham Rovers , the game was switched to Leafy Lane to allow Athletic to host the second leg in two weeks time.

Despite Trowbridge holding a 2-1 half time lead, Corsham came back to win 3-2 and leave the second leg later this month nicely balanced.

A Corsham own goal and a goal from Kieran Balchin for Trowbridge had given them the lead but two goals from Aron Byfield and Warone from Ciaran Taylor turned the game in Corsham’s favour.

Warminster Athletic FC 2 v Forest Renegades FC 5

Division two rivals Warminster Athletic and Forest Renegades have both struggled for form recently. Forest held a narrow 2-1 lead at the half but then pulled away in the second half to win 5-2 and give themselves a cushion for the second leg.

Tom A’Court, Steve Knight, two goals from Joseph Brickell and one from William Harford scoring for Renegades.

Callum Hotine and Noah Millard for Warminster.

Weston Village (Team Nathan) FC 2 The Pewsham FC 1

A tight game between the Division Three rivals Weston Village – Team Nathan and visitors The Pewsham FC gave the home team a 2-1 advantage and leaves everything to play for in the second leg later this month. Ionut-Viorel Ranete had opened the scoring for the Village who led 1-0 at the half.

A second goal from the Village striker and a response from Pewsham’s Ali Moor-Bardell closed the scoring.

A recent upturn in form has left the second leg too close to call despite the steady home form of Pewsham.
