Premier Division Round Up – Match Week 33 – Sunday 7th May
SCOOP CROWNED PREMIER DIVISION CHAMPIONS
AFC Melksham 1 Scoop FC 12
After what has been a thrilling season in the Shoestrings-chargrill sponsored Chippenham & Bath League, Premier Division, Scoop FC took the title in some style as they convincingly beat a weakened AFC Melksham team 12-1. Unfortunately for Melksham it was a very disappointing end to the season which at one time seemed so promising.
Scoop had raced into a 5-0 lead in the first half before heading into the break 7-1 up as Paul Gittins pulled a goal back for Melksham in the first half.
Scoop then added a further five goals to complete their dozen and capture a rare double against one of the divisions top teams.
Aaron Witchell with a hat trick, two goals each for Nathan Baldwin and Josh Bright, along with goals from the division’s top scorer Edward Summers, Rory Davis, Ryan Collins and Lewis McCarron completed the scoring.
Kingsmead FC 3 FC Devizes 5
Kingsmead who had beaten AFC Melksham 6-1 on Tuesday evening, but were themselves out of the title race hosted FC Devizes United who could actually have taken the winners crown at the death had Scoop lost and they won.
Devizes fought hard to give themselves an outside chance of taking the title if Scoop had slipped up at Melksham. However, they found themselves 2-1 down at half time to a Kingsmead team who have had an excellent season. Devizes did finish in style as they added four goals to their opponents one to win 5-3. The away win was not enough to take the title but they did finish as runners-up with Kingsmead taking third place.
Kingsmead goals coming from Alexander Aulds, Richie Chandler and the team’s top scorer Charlie Saunders.
Two goals from Daniel Skinner and goals from Carl Ledbury, Declan McStravick and Oscar Webster sealed Devizes their win. Credit to both teams for keeping the division so competitive.
Kingsmead FC 6 AFC Melksham 1
It was always going to be a difficult ask on Tuesday evening for AFC Melksham to win away at the Somerset Cup Winners , Kingsmead home pitch, particularly after a painful 3-0 loss to FC Box in the Cinch Self Storage sponsored Knockout Cup along with injuries and unavailability, and so it proved.
Kingsmead opened the scoring before Melksham equalised, a Rhys Talmarsh goal from a DJ Wheeler assist. Although Kingsmead scored again, Melksham were very much in the game until just before half time when a moment of indiscipline by DJ Wheeler saw them reduced to ten men as Kingsmead led 2-1 at the half.
The ten men battled hard as they brought on an injured Jordan Kirk who along with Alex Hillier tried to stem the Kingsmead attacks. Despite their efforts, Kingsmead added another four goals to run out 6-1 winners.
Ben Wych and Andrew Keen both scored twice for the home team along with goals from Charlie Saunders and Archie Morris.
