DIVISION THREE ROUND UP – 17th September 2023

Warminster Athletic FC 4 Lacock Athletic FC 2

WARMINSTER DENY LACOCK TOP SPOT

Ben Thomas, took his Lacock Athletic side to Warminster Athletic in the knowledge that if they avoided defeat to Stuart Green’s side they would take over pole position in the Chippenham & Bath League, Third Division, for Lacock who had won their opening two games of the campaign, with Warminster losing both of theirs, they would have expected to return home with all 3 points and in pole position.

Warminster had other ideas and having beating Lacock twice when they were the Misfits, they were confident that they could maintain their fine form against the visitors and so it proved as despite falling behind, Warminster hit back to claim their 4-2 triumph.

Warminster who missed a host of first half chances that would have put them out of sight at the break, fell behind to a Scott James goal, but thanks to a Ben Bullus effort then went in level at the interval.

After the break, the hosts finally found their scoring boots and they took the lead via a Tyler Cuff effort. A send from Ben Bullus made it 3-1 and when Bullus completed his hat trick to claim his third and Warminster’s fourth of the morning it was game over.

David Payne did score a second for Lacock, however it was little more than a consolation as Warminster were never threatened again and the points were never in doubt once they took their 4-1 lead.

Lansdown Reserves FC 3 Team Nathan AFC 4

TEAM NATHAN CHALK UP FIRST EVER LEAGUE WIN

A week after they were unable to raise a team for their match with Forest Albion, Team Nathan AFC finally got their season up and running when they made the short trip across Bath to play Lansdown Reserves.  The teams served up a football fest that saw Team Nathan score a late winner to edge out their hosts 4-3 in a seven goal thrillier.

Lansdown Reserves led through Adam Cooke’s opener which was cancelled out by Liam Davis.  With parity restored, both teams had chances to take the lead before half time and after knocking at the door on a few occasions, it was Team Nathan who grabbed the initiative when Jimmy Bradley netted to give his team a 2-1 half time advantage.

The second half ebbed and flowed and Lansdown got themselves back on level terms thanks to Lee Hicks, however their joy was short lived as Leyton Sharp regained the lead Team Nathan.

Back came Lansdown and they fashioned a second equaliser, courtesy of Jake Banks, once again they were unable to hold on to what they had and thanks to a Damon Robinson strike, Mark Payne-Blackmore’s side held on to claim a 4-3 success, which was their first ever victory in the Chippenham & Bath Football League.
