DIVISION TWO ROUND UP – 17th September 2023

Marshfield (Sunday) FC 1 Combe Down FC 4

THIRD STRAIGHT WIN TAKES COMBE DOWN TOP

With the majority of Second Division teams in Knockout Cup action, Bath based newcomers Combe Down took full advantage of their rivals league inactivity.

Andy Lovelock’s side visited Marshfield (Sunday) and would have known that as long as they avoided defeat at the hands of their hosts they would move about Corsham Rovers at the top of the table, and for third match in a row, four was the magic number for the Downers who followed up a 4-1 victory over Semington FC and 4-0 success over Westbury Rovers with a 4-1 triumph over Marshfield.

Dontae Swaby-Depass opened the scoring for the visitors who were 3-0 at half time after goals from Drew Lovelock and Morgan Henry put them on course for a third straight win.

Sam Bean gave Marshfield brief hope of staging a comeback, however his goal was in vain as a second of the morning from Henry Morgan wrapped up all 3 points for the new division pacesetters.

Farrington Albion FC 3 Griffin FC 6

CONNER NETS TREBLE AS GRIFFIN BEAT FARRINGTON

A 6-3 home defeat for Farrington Albion left them rooted to the bottom of the table, while the victory for opponents Griffin FC was their second on the bounce and saw them move into third place in the standings.

Farrington must have thought that after taking a two goal lead that their losing start to the season was coming to an end, however a Harry Meredith double was cancelled out before half time as Griffin fought back to go into the break 3-2 up.  Louis Bollard halved the deficit, Duncan Frew fired Griffin level at 2-2 and Max Western handed them the lead.

The second half belonged to the Griffin and in particular one Steve Connor who helped himself to a hat trick that put his team 6-2 ahead before Ollie Gould scored a consolation for Farrington who face leaders Combe Down next Sunday before taking on The Pewsham in a match that both teams will be looking at for a possible first win of the season.
