BATH ROAD CONJURE UP CUP UPSET AWAY AT CORSHAM
In a very entertaining Cinch Self Storage sponsored Knockout Cup match, high scoring and unbeaten Division two Corsham Rovers entertained unbeaten newcomers Bath Road Wanderers at Rovers Leafy Lane pitch. Last year’s Subsidiary Cup winners, Corsham Rovers must have expected they were likely to progress to the next round, however Wanderers had other ideas as they edged a 7-goal thriller 4-3.
In the first quarter. Rovers dominated and it seemed only a matter of time before a flurry of goals would arrive as the Wanderers keeper made several excellent saves to keep the game scoreless.
Eventually Rovers did break through as top scorer Elliot Haffenden gave them the lead in the 10th minute. Despite the continued dominance of Rovers, Wanderers hit back in the 20th minute when Owen Pearce’s deflected free kick flew into the net. Rovers quickly restored their lead as Owen Thomson’s tap in gave them a 2-1 lead. Wanderers now came more into the game and minutes later they were on level terms with a fine individual goal again from Owen Pearce. The play was now end to end and Rovers were clearly rattled with the counter attacking speed of Wanderers.
In the 40th minute a counterattack from Cameron Pearce who scored to give Wanderers their first lead of the day. Wanderers going into half time with a 3-2 lead.
Although Rovers pressed hard for an equaliser, Wanderers defence held firm and in the 60th minute Cameron Pearce broke away again the give Wanderers a 4-2 lead with a fine goal.
The play now was becoming more and more concentrated in the Wanderers half as the rain came on heavily. In the 77th minute Rovers were given hope as they were given a penalty after a foul in the area. Elliot Haffenden making no mistake with the penalty to reduce Wanderers lead to 4-3.
Rovers were however unable to breach the Wanderers defence as the visitors progressed to the next round of the cup with a deserved 4-3 away win.
Bath Road FC 0 Corsham Pavao FC 3
PAVAO MARCH ON IN CUP AFTER WICKENS HAT TRICK
Division One leaders, Bath Rovers were hoping to cause a Cup upset as they entertained Premier Division visitors Corsham Pavao to their Odd Down home.
However, an upset was not on the cards as Ben Wickens who was part of the FC Box side that lifted the cup in 2022 and 2023 gave Corsham a first half lead.
Two further goals from Ben Wickens in the second half completed both his hat trick and a 3-0 away win for the visitors who progressed to the next round of the Cup.
AFC Ivy 5 Forest Albion FC 2
FOREST STRANGLED BY IVY IN KO CUP CLASH
In an all Division three Cup clash between unbeaten teams, league leaders AFC Ivy welcomed Forest Albion to their Odd Down Pitch.
Both teams exchanged goals in the first half as Tyler Mayoh opened the scoring for Ivy with James Dark responding for Albion to leave the score at 1-1 at half time.
Mason Phelps gave the visitors the early second half lead before Henry Shortridge equalised, Ivy then went 3-2 in front with a Harrison Collings goal before Henry Shortridge got his second to extend Ivy’s lead.
Balazs Boda completed Ivy’s scoring to give them a 5-2 home win as they progressed to the next round.
Kingfisher FC 2 The Beeches FC 3
MASSON GUIDES BEECHES TO CUP WIN
Second Division Kingfisher welcomed their First Division opponents Beeches to their Buckley Barracks home, hoping to cause a cup upset.
They did hold a first half lead as Kieran Blake put them in front for a 1-0 advantage at half time.
An unfortunate own goal brought Beeches back into the game and they took the lead when Aaron Masson scored.
Kingfisher did come back as Henry Galloway equalised. Aaron Masson however scored his second to give Beeches a 3-2 away win and progression to the next round. Kingfisher however having to play with ten men after Ed Baldwin picked up a red card for a second booking
Manor FC 8 Weston Village – Team Nathan FC 1
MANOR TAKE LEAGUE FORM TO KO WESTON VILLAGE IN CUP
Newcomers Manor FC, unbeaten in their Division Three campaign welcomed fellow Division Three Weston Village (Team Nathan) to their Lansdown home.
That was the end of any generosity as the home team raced into a three-goal lead with goals from Mitchell Furze, Tyreece Chevolleau and Kyle Eames.
Thomas Hinton did respond for Weston Village before Tyreece Chevolleau scored his second. An own goal, followed by a Roberto Gouveia effort gave Manor a 6-1 half time lead.
Weston Village did stop the goal rush a little in the second half but they couldn’t prevent Tyreece Chevolleau from completing his hat trick and Ben Douglas added another to give Manor an 8-1 home cup as the progressed to the next round.
Old Road FC 4 Forest Renegades FC 1
OLD ROAD FIGHT BACK TO BEAT RENEGADES
Division One Old Road welcomed Division Two Forest Renegades to their Beeches home for a first-round cup clash.
Neither team could break the deadlock in the first half which ended with a 0-0 scoreline.
Renegades must have had hopes of an upset after they took the lead with a William Harford goal.
However Old Road struck back as Hugo Skelhorn, Patrick Wittock, Ali Moor-Bardell and Samson Van Weenan scored to give the home team a 4-1 win as they progressed to the next round. Several yellow cards gave the impression this was a feisty affair.
Semington FC 2 Westbury Rovers FC 3
RIMMER & GEE NET TO END ROVERS CUP HOPES
Division two rivals Semington and Westbury Rovers met at the home team’s Little Marsh home for this first round cup clash.
Semington took a 2-0 lead into half time thanks to goals from Daniel Rimmer and Oliver Gee.
Rovers hit back in the second half with a Stefan Brinzaru goal but could not force an equaliser as Semington progressed to the next round with a narrow 2-1 home win.
Shires Athletic FC 16 The Pewsham FC 1
PEWSHAM CRUSHED BY RAMPANT SPIRES
Although Spires Athletic are yet to record a Division One league win it was clearly a case of one way traffic at Stanley Park as they hit sixteen goals against their Division Two opponents The Pewsham in this first round cup clash.
They led 9-1 at half time with goals from Kiernan Tarrant (two), Zachery Bruce (four) Samuel Wallis (two) and Jack Brain. Dean Fry having pulled a goal back for the visitors.
Seven more goals were added in the second half. Joshua Bolwell, Macauley Chamberlain, Samuel Willis completing his hat trick, Todd Buckley, Zachery Bruce scoring two to increase his tally to six on the day and Dylan Hatt completed the scoring.
Trowbridge Athletic FC 2 Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 3
10-MAN FOX & HOUNDS SEE OFF TROWBRIDGE ATHLETIC
In a tight game at their Notton House School pitch, Division Three, Trowbridge Athletic entertained Division One Fox and Hounds (Warminster) hoping to cause a first round cup upset and despite their best efforts they cam up just short as a the visitors scored a late winner to deny the hosts the chance of a penalty shoot out lottery to cause a shock.
Neither side could score in the first half although Fox and Hounds did miss a penalty.
Kieran Balchin did open the scoring for Trowbridge. Patrick Kepelka equalised before Jake Owen gave the visitors the lead.
Lenny Gale hit back for Trowbridge to level the game . Trowbridge also missing a penalty before Jayson Stokes gave the visitors a narrow 3-2 away win as they moved on to the next round of the cup.
