PREMIER DIVISION ROUND UP – 10th September 2023
Hourglass FC 3 FC Devizes United 4
SUPER SUBS FIRE DEVIZES TO DEBRY DAY SUCCESS
In an exciting game at Melksham’s Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Field, FC Devizes United came away with the points after coming from behind to complete a smash and grab raid, with a narrow 4-3 win over promoted and local rivals Hourglass.
Jake waters had given Hourglass the lead but Kamran Muhid responded for Devizes to leave the game level 1-1 at half time.
Liam Hill restored Hourglass’s lead after half time and Liam Mortimer then gave them a 3-1 advantage.
Last seasons runners up in the Premier division do not however give up easily and the introduction of substitutes Jack Baker and Oscar Webster turned the game on it’s head, first Baker reduced the home team’s lead to 3-2 before Webster brought the teams level before giving Devizes the lead with his second goal.
Hourglass could not respond as Devizes took the points with a 4-3 away win.
PF Loco FC 4 Lavis FC 1
LOCO MOVE TOP AFTER PERFECT START
Lavis FC travelled to Lansdown, Bath for their first ever meeting with Memorial Cup holders PF Loco FC and unlike last week when manager Aaron Latchem was left deflated after his side suffered a 2-0 defeat against Hourglass, he had little to complain about as despite opening the scoring, Lavis were well under par as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat.
Loco who opened the campaign with a stunning 4-2 triumph over local rivals and Somerset Sunday Cup holders Kingsmead, were on the back foot for the opening 15 minutes and fell behind to a debut goal from Ed Cooke who was set up by Will Purdy.ead
Jack Booth went close to doubling the lead for Lavis, but after that it was all PF Loco who knocked on the door, but couldn’t break down a stubborn Lavis defence who managed to maintain their 1-0 lead up until half time.
Once Sam Epsley restored parity for the hosts in the second half, it belonged to PF Loco who played simple but direct football as they eventually ground down their guests to run out comfortable winners.
Nico Inglis who scored a double last weekend, found the target again as he fired Loco ahead and when Matt Curnock made it 3-1, Lavis knew they had been well beaten and the defeat was confirmed by substitute Marco Viola who after coming off the bench and calmly slotted home from the penalty spot to wrap up Loco’s 4-1 success that see them sit top of the Premier Division table.
Scoop FC 2 Kingsmead FC 2
CHAMPIONS COME FROM 2-DOWN TO SALVAGE POINT
In what was described by both teams as a great game, last seasons premier division winners Scoop FC shared the points with last seasons Somerset Sunday Cup winners Kingsmead at Beversbrook.
Kingsmead had taken a 1-0 lead by half time with a Ryan Rudland goal.
A second Ryan Rudland goal gave Kingsmead a 2-0 advantage before Rory Davis pulled a goal back for Scoop and Nathan Baldwin then equalised.
Neither team could break the deadlock as they shared the points with a 2-2 draw.
University Of Bath FC 0 Corsham Pavao FC 2
DOUBLE STRIKE LEAVES LAMB, MINTED
Newcomers to the League, University of Bath, held the highly favoured visitors, Corsham Pavao to a goalless first half.
However two goals in the second half from Joe Lamb saw Corsham maintain their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 victory over the University who were playing their first game of the season.
