PREMIER DIVISION ROUND UP – 3rd September 2023

Corsham Pavao FC 2 FC Devizes United 2

WICKENS RESCUES POINT FOR PAVAO

Last season’s runners up in the Premier Division, FC Devizes United were given a battle by newcomers Corsham Pavao. Both teams traded chances as the score remained 0-0 going into half time.

Corsham then struck first with a goal from Samuel Talliss. Devizes however struck back as Jamie Walters their top scorer last season equalised before Jack Coward gave them the lead.

Corsham however were not finished as Ben Wickens scored to equalise at 2-2 as both teams shared the points.

Lavis FC 0 Hourglass FC 2

MISSED CHANCES PROVE COSTLY FOR LAVIS

Aaron Latchem was left deflated after his Lavis FC side suffered an opening day 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Hourglass FC.

With both teams making their debut in the Premier Division of the Chippenham & Bath Football, the game which was moved from Nursteed Road to The Lye, Seend late on Friday saw Hourglass have the better of the opening 10 minutes, before Lavis woke from their early morning slumber.

Bossing most of the first half, Lavis were unfortunate not to lead at the break. Paul Gittins who later off injured, will still be thinking how did he miss that sitter that would have put the hosts in front.

Olly Sterling went even closer to putting Lavis 1-up, his goal bound effort was somehow scrambled off the line by a last ditch clearance from Dean Taccuso.

Having withstood the first half onslaught from Lavis, Hourglass grew into the game in the second period and unlike Lavis in the first half they took their chances when they came along.

Hourglass broke the deadlock courtesy of substitute Jonathan Webb, a summer signing from The British Lion, whose debut goal made the hosts pay for their first half poor finishing.

The visitors wrapped up the points when Jake Waters, another recruit from British Lion and last term’s Second Division top scorer was on hand to fire home after a lapse in concentration in the Lavis defence.

The result was a disappointment for Lavis who believe they should have got something from a game that they probably had the best of, for most of it, however manager Latchem accepted that if you don’t take your chances when they come along, then you don’t deserve to win games.

PF Loco FC 4 Kingsmead FC 2

LOCO ON TRACK AGAINST KINGSMEAD

In the battle of the two Bath based Premier teams, last season’s PJL Rail Services sponsored Memorial Cup winners PF Loco met Somerset County Cup winners and rivals Kingsmead.

Sam Epsley opened the scoring for Loco before their top scorer last season Nico Inglis added a second. Kingsmead’s top scorer last season Charlie Saunders responded with a goal to reduce the lead, but Nico Inglis added a second to give PF Loco a 3-1 half time lead.

Charlie Saunders added his second to give Kingsmead hope by Angus Williamson gave PF Loco a 4-2 home victory and a great start to the season.
