MARSHFIELD EDGE GRIFFIN IN 9-GOAL THRILLER
In a very entertaining Cinch Self Storage sponsored Knockout Cup match between Second division stablemates Griffin FC and Marshfield (Sunday) FC it was the latter who came out on top after they edged a 9-goal thriller 5-4.
In form Griffin would have gone into the tie full of confidence especially as they had beaten their guests 6-3 when the teams met at the end of September.
Marshfield had taken an early lead but Howard Dennis and then Dave Walton gave Griffin a 2-1 advantage before Marshfield equalised to leave the score level at half time 2-2.
Marshfield took the lead before Matt Pawley equalised again. Once More Marshfield scored before a second from Dave Walton brought the teams level at 4-4. Marshfield however had the last word as they scored again to surprise their opponents and move to the next round.
Marshfield had Sam Bean to thank for his hat trick along with goals from Jake Good and Alex Fryer.
AFC Ivy 5 Manor FC 1
IVY DUMP MANOR OUT OF KO CUP
The all-Third division cup encounter between Bath based rivals AFC Ivy and Manor FC saw a convincing 5-1 home success.
Ben Millett, Milo Murgatroyd and Sam Cheetham had given AFC Ivy them a 3-0 lead before Brady Davies pulled a goal back for Manor to leave the score at 3-1 half time.
Another Ben Millett goal in the second half along with a goal from Balazs Boda completed the 5-1 victory for the home team.
Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 2 Olympic Victoria FC 1 A
ABANDONED AFTER 25 MINUTES – PITCH CONDITIONS
REF CALLS TIME AFTER JUST 25 MINUTES
With, Fox & Hounds (Warminster) 2-1 up at home to Olympic Victoria and following a deluge that left the pitch with a couple of puddles, the match referee made the surprise decision to call an haul to proceedings, leaving both teams somewhat bemused, especially as the water had goe and the sun was shining some 20 minutes later.
Reece Collyer and Sam Wright scored for the home team with Jack Walker scoring for Olympic Victoria in a match that will no doubt have to be replayed.
Kingsmead FC 8 Hourglass FC 1
TIME RUNS OUT FOR HOURGLASS AS TALMASH NETS 6 IN CUP ROMP
Kingsmead had a convincing 8-1 home win over fellow Premier team Hourglass.
Leading 6-0 at half time Cullen Wylie pulled a goal back in the second half for Hourglass.
Six goals from Rhys Talmash along with goals from Samuel Whitson and Charlie Saunders were enough to see Kingsmead into Round Three.
Lacock Athletic FC 2 Beeches FC 6
LACOCK RUN OUT OF STEAM AGAINST BEECHES FC
Although, Ryan Withers opened the scoring for Third Division Lacock Athletic against their Division One opponents Beeches FC, Aaron Masson equalised for Beeches before Tom Dowell gave the visitors the lead.
Ryan Withers with his second saw the home side level at 2-2 which was the half time score.
Lacock could not hold the visitors in the second half as a second from Aaron Masson and also Tom Dowell gave them a 4-2 lead.
Brendan Knight and Kurt Baston’s goals then put the result beyond any doubt as Beeches moved to Round 3 with a 6-2 away victory.
Lavis FC 7 Lansdown FC 0
VINTAGE JONES STARS IN LAVIS CUP WIN
Top flight Lavis FC began this season’s Cinch Self Storage sponsored Knockout Cup competition with a comfortable 7-0 triumph at home to First Division Lansdown FC.
Lavis who will certainly face tougher opposition as they bid to make this season’s final were always favourites to win their First round tie and in truth they had the game won in the first 45 minutes as Arthur Dolan’s hat trick gave them a 3-0 advantage.
Jack Booth’s cross picked out Dolan who tucked the ball home for 1-0, Tom Blackman’s cross found Dolan who had another simple finish to double the Lavis lead Dolan completed his treble when finished of another inch perfect cross from Blackman.
Darren Jones rolled back the years when he extended the Lavis lead in the second half, following a corner which Lansdown failed to clear and Jones pounced on the loose ball and smashed it home for 4-0.
Jack Booth may not have added his name to the list of scorers but he had a hand in four assists, one of those were for Olly Sterling who scored goals 5 and 6 and both were near identical, they may not have been worldies, but they were excellent finishes from 20 yards out, Arthur Dolan provided the other assist.
It was left to Louis Cunningham to complete the scoring for Lavis, an excellent Jack Booth corner picked out Cunningham who headed home to leave the hosts as 7-0 victors.
Old Road FC 2 Scoop FC 4
GREEN’S HEROICS UNABLE TO SAVE OLD ROAD
Premier Division champions Scoop who are among the favourites to lift this season’s Cinch Self Storage sponsored Knockout Cup were given a battle by their Division One opponents Old Road.
Although they dominated the play and had taken an early lead after 9 minutes with the follow up to a save from Will Green in the Old Road goal, Old Road continued to cause problems.
In the15th minute they were level after a fast break and an Aaron Holbrook pass gave Izaak Sallows the opportunity to equalise. Scoop did again dominate the remainder of the first half , scoring in the 41st minute to take a 2-1 half time lead.
After 54 minutes Old road were back level when a misplaced back pass allowed Patrick Whittock to equalise for Old Road.
Scoop then pressed hard to avoid the game going to penalties but were denied by a combination of Will Green’s saves, good defending and some poor finishing by their forwards.
With just five minutes to go Scoop did beak the deadlock and two minutes later scored again to progress to Round 3.
Scoop’s Edward Summers scored two along with goals from Rory Davies and Adam Butterworth.
PF Loco FC 6 Semington FC 1
LOCO CHUFFED BY LATEST CUP WIN
Premier Division PF Loco had a comfortable Second round cup win over Division Two visitors Semington, Sam Epsley opened the scoring for Loco with Angus Williamson and Hamish Evans adding further goals as they went in with a 3-0 half time lead.
Sam Epsley scored again to extend their lead in the second half before Simon Smith and then Harvey Cartwright gave them a 6-0 lead.
Joseph Whiteman did pull a goal back for Semington but it was PF Loco move to Round 3 with their 6-1 win.
Two Weir Town FC 3 Spires Athletic FC 2
10-MAN FOX & HOUNDS SEE OFF TROWBRIDGE ATHLETIC
In a close game at their Odd Down home, Two Weir Town welcomed Division One stablemates Spires Athletic. Ben Bryant gave the home team a 1-0 half time lead.
Daniel Roberts extended their lead after half time before Frank Mubvuta reduced the arrears to 2-1.
Substitute Fergal McDonald then restored the two goal lead for Two Weir Town before Dylan Hatt scored for the visitors.
Spires however could not find a further goal as Two Weir Town moved into the next round with a 3-2 win.
Whiteway FC 15 Warminster Athletic FC 1
WHITEWAY PUT UNDERDOGS TO THE SWORD
Division One leaders Whiteway put their Division Three visitors Warminster Athletic to the sword with a 15-1 victory to progress to Round 3 of the Knockout Cup.
They led 4-0 at half time with goals from Connor Scarrott after 13 minutes an own goal after18 minutes. A Charlie Myrie goal after 19 minutes and another own goal after 41 minutes.
Unfortunately for the visitors the flood gates opened in the second half as Whiteway scored another eleven goals, Gary Jones after 54 minutes, Tyrone Mulholland 55 minutes, Substitute Tyler Matthews 57 minutes.
Tyrone Mulholland again on 64 minutes, Two Gary Jones goals (70 & 71 minutes) to complete his hat trick and a goal from substitute Jack Williams after 73 minutes to give them an 11-0 lead before Dan Walker scored for the visitors.
Charlie Myrie (76minutes), substitute Aiden Maslen (79 minutes), a fourth Gary Jones goal (80 minutes) and another Jack Williams goal (84 minutes) completed the 15-1 win for Whiteway.
