NO MAJOR SHOCKS IN SUNDAY CUP
The Second Round of this season’s Wiltshire Sunday Cup may not have seen any teams from the Chippenham & Bath Sunday League suffer any major shocks, however what was disappointing was that six teams progressed to the Third round without kicking a ball, after being handed walkover by their opponents.
Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 7 Durrington FC 0
DURRINGTON NO MATCH FOR FOX & HOUNDS
It would be fair to say that Fox & Hounds (Warminster) are no great lovers of the Sunday Cup so when they welcomed Durrington FC of the Salisbury & District Sunday League to their Land Warfare Centre pitch at Warminster, the smart money would have been on an early exit from the competition for the hosts.
Therefore it came as something of a surprise that after a goalless first half, the home team went on a goal spree in the second half and bagged 7 unanswered goals.
Jake Owen opened the scoring for the home team. Braden Humphreys got a second followed by Jayson Stokes. Jake Owen then completed his hat trick with two further goals to give Fox & hounds a 5-0 lead.
Braden Humphreys added his second and Patrick Kapelka scored to give the home team a comfortable 7-0 win as they moved in Round Three of the Wiltshire County Cup where they travel to Swiss Chalet.
Forest Albion FC 0 Lavis FC 10
LAVIS CHOP FOREST DOWN IN SUNDAY CUP
The match between top flight Lavis FC and Third division, Forest Albion, had been predicted to be a David verses Goliath contest and so it was as Aaron Latchem’s outfit who can’t buy a win in the League slayed their opponents with a thumping 10-0 romp at Albion’s, Forest Community Centre base.
Olly Sterling set Lavis on their way, Jack Sterling made it 2-0, Matt Purdy who had a match to remember scored his first of the tie to make it 3-0 and Jordan Pinder who had started the game on the bench slotted home to give the visitors to Melksham a 4-0 advantage at the break.
Jordan Pinder who was making his season’s debut for Lavis, doubled his tally when he made it 5-0, however from that moment on it became the Purdy and Mark Maguire show.
Maguire on as a second half sub, added a sixth for Latchem’s side before Purdy added to his first half effort with two more goals, to complete his hat trick. Not to be outdone Maguire wadded in with a couple more goals to seal his 3-timer and wrap up the 10-0 success for Lavis whose reward for their triumph is a home tie against fellow top flight side Corsham Pavao in the Third round which will come on the back of two league meeting between the sides.
Green Dragon FC 6 Royal British Legion FC 1
DRAGON BREZZE PAST ROYAL BRITH LEGION
Green Dragon welcomed Royal British Legion (Tidworth) of the Andover & District Sunday League to their West Lavington base. In a tight first half, Richard Tandy opened the scoring for the home team and Max Johnson added a second to give the home team a 2-0 half time lead.
Sam Chapman gave the home team the advantage as he completed a hat trick to extend Dragon’s lead to 5-0. Christian O’Donovan finished the scoring for the home team before the visitors scored a consolation goal.
Green Dragon moving to Round Three of the competition where they visit fellow league outfit Bath Road Wanderers with a 6-1 home win.
Lacock Athletic FC 3 Kingfisher FC 4
FISHERMEN SEE OFF BATTLING LACOCK
In an end-to-end game Division Three, Lacock Athletic played hosts to Division Two’s Kingfisher at their Lacock pitch with hopes no doubt of an upset, in view of the recent league form of the two teams clearly favouring the home team.
Kingfisher on the back of two successive league defeats were in no mood to accommodate the home team, as Ben Haines gave the visitors an early lead.
An unfortunate own goal extended the lead to 2-0 before Adam Powell’s goal reduced the arrears and Nigel Frayling equalised for Lacock. A Harry Galloway strike then gave the visitors a 3-2 lead which they took into half time.
Adam Loveridge gave Kingfisher a 4-2 lead before Dan Hopwood pulled a goal back for Lacock.
Kingfisher then held on to give themselves a 4-3 away win and progressed to the next round which sees them at home to AFC Bulford.
Semington FC 1 Forest Renegades FC 2
HARFORD NETS WINNER FOR RENEGADES
In another tight all Chippenham & Bath League affair, Semington welcomed Division Two rivals Forest Renegades to their Little Marsh Home. The visitors took an early lead when Tom A’Court opened the scoring after two minutes. With no further score, Renegades went in a half time leading 1-0.
Semington brought the game level in the 55th minute with a Louis Adam goal.
Renegades settled the tie in their favour in the 75th minute as William Harford scored to give them a 2-1 away win and progression to the next round of the County Cup where unfortunately for Forest they have been drawn at home to Cup holders, the mighty Tidworth Town Youth (Adults).
Spires Athletic FC 3 Beeches FC 1
SPIRES BEAT BEECHES IN BACK-TO-BACK GAMES
A week after they they defeated Beeches FC 4-3 in a thrilling league encounter Spires Athletic welcomed Division One rivals to their Stanley Park pitch for this second round County Cup tie.
Although Beeches have had the better start to the season it was Spires who scored first through Frank Mubvuta. The same player then scored again to give the home team a 2-0 half time advantage.
Aaron Masson then scored for the visitors to give them some hope but Zach Preston’s goal ensured a 3-1 home win and progress to round three where a trip to Netheravon Wanderers awaits them.
Warminster Athletic FC 1 Tidworth Town Youth (Adults) FC 7
FISHERMEN SEE OFF BATTLING LACOCK
Third Division, Warminster Athletic welcomed Tidworth Town Youth of the Andover & District Sunday League to their St George School base. Athletic must have known it was likely to be a difficult day as they were facing the 2022/23 County Cup Winners.
And so it proved as the visitors took a 4-0 half time lead. This the extended to 5-0 before Athletics’ Zak Williams got a goal back for the home team. Tidworth Town however scored two more to give them a 7-1 away win as they moved ominously into the next round.
Tidworth’s goals coming from Jake Connor (2), Kyle Slocombe (2), George Higgins, Paul Mowatt and Kimron Quashie.
Westbury Rovers FC 2 Sevenfields United FC 3
SEVENFIELDS EDGE OUT WESTBURY ROVERS
Westbury Rovers welcomed Sevenfields United from the Swindon & District Sunday League to their Bratton home pitch.
In a tight first half Carl Ledbury scored for Rovers, but Sevenfields held a 2-1 lead at the half time whistle. Adam Burbridge converted a second half penalty for the home team. Sevenfields also scored to take a 3-2 away win and progressed to the next round of the competition, where they will travel back to North Wiltshire to take on Corsham Rovers.
