PREMIER DIVISION ROUND UP – 15th October 2023

Corsham Pavao FC 1 Scoop FC 2

AUTUMN BLUES LIFTED BY SUMMERS DOUBLE FOR SCOOP

Chippenham & Bath Football League, Premier Division, defending champions Scoop FC, may have gone into their match away at Corsham Pavao on the back of an excellent 5-3 victory over FC Devizes United, but with manager Matt Richards away, Scoop were not at their best but in true champions form they managed to scrap their way to a 2-1 victory at Vallens Terrace, Box.

Scoop had to do things the hard way and had to battle back after Zac Hillier had given Pavao the lead which was cancelled out by Eddie Summers whose goal levelled the score before half time.

The second half saw both teams rely on their defensive qualities to keep the score at 1-1, however if anyone was going to break the stalemate it was going to Scoop and one man in particular and when the chance came last terms Premier division top scorer Eddie Summers fired home his second of the morning to wrap up another massive 3 points for Scoop in their bid to become back to back title winners.

FC Devizes United 3 PF Loco FC 1

DEVIZES DEFEAT ADVERSARIES PF LOCO

The last time FC Devizes United and PF Loco FC went head to head on a football pitch it was in last season’s Memorial Cup Final at Twerton Park, on that occasion a Nico Inglis goal earned Loco a 1-0 win.

Devizes had won the two league encounters, one of which was awarded to them when Loco were unable to raise a team, so when Loco arrived at Goatace, there would have been two things on the minds of the hosts, one was to avenge the Cup Final loss and the other would have been to get back to winning way after their defeat to Scoop FC a week ago.

A 3-1 win for the hosts saw them achieve both targets, Devizes who led 1-0 at the break through a Kassa Anderson went on to secure victory after a second Anderson goal and Kian Fulford strike.

Aaron Fowler replied for Loco who next game see them travel to Spirit FC in the Somerset where they will be looking for another victory to progress in a competition that they reached the semi-final stage last term.

Lavis FC 4 University Of Bath FC 4

10 MAN UNIVERSITY CLAIM DRAW AT LAVIS

Lavis FC may have picked up their first win of the season last week with an excellent all round team performance against Corsham Pavao, however things didn’t go to plan for Aaron Latchem’s men when they hosted University Of Bath FC who could only field 10 players against PF Loco last weekend which saw them suffer a 7-1 loss.

The University were again involved in a match that saw 8 goals, but on this occasion a battling performance from the visitors to Rusty Lane, Seend saw the points shared from a thrilling 4-4 draw.

Against the Uni boys, things started well for Lavis when Jordan Pinder put them ahead, the University were then reduced to 10 players when they lost one to injury, but despite the numerical disadvantage the visitors to Seend upped their game and the lively Vladyslav Pokoievych who was making his debut got his team back on level terms and then the 10 men stunned Lavis by taking the lead through a Scott Jarman goal.

Lavis weren’t behind for long and a sublime volley from James Cox got Lavis back on level terms when Arthur Dolan slid at the far post to turn the ball home Lavis took a 3-2 lead, which they couldn’t keep hold of as a Jack Layzell strike tied the scores at 3-3 prior to half time.

Mark Maguire who also missed a glorious chance to claim another, pounced on a goalkeeping error made it 4-3 and set Lavis up for what should have been a win, however the never say die attitude of the 10 men saw Vladslav Pokoievych cap a player of the match performance with his second of what was a thrilling game to earn the University Of Bath a well-deserved share of the points.
