KNOCKOUT CUP ROUND UP – 2nd Round

Lavis FC 2 Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 0

LAVIS LAND KNOCKOUT BLOW IN KO CUP

Premier division outfit Lavis FC welcomed Division one promotion hopefuls Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC to their Rusty Lane pitch, for their Second round showdown in this season’s Cinch Self Storage sponsored Knockout Cup.

Fox & Hounds who ahead of last week’s Sunday Cup exit had won 9 matches on the spin were expected to give their hosts who had been struggling of late a real test, but Aaron Latchem’s side at last showed some real character as they put in a real shift to claim a 2-0 triumph on a pitch that finished the day resembling a cabbage patch rather than a football pitch.

Lavis who now progress to the quarter-finals where they will be hoping for a kind draw edged a first half that saw them take a 1-0 lead courtesy of a James Cox goal.

In a match where both keepers played their part, Lavis stopper preserved his teams lead when he turned a goal bound effort around the post while his opposite number Connor North did well to keep out a Jordan De Silva shot, although his error when he spilled a Tom Blackman effort led to De Silva making it 2-0 when he slid in to turn the ball home.

Jordan De Silva was denied a second when his effort hit the post, but after 90 minutes, Lavis had made a welcomed return to winning ways in atrocious conditions, that on another day or at another venue would have seen the match postponed.

Whiteway FC 5 Bath Road Wanderers 2

NEW NETS SECOND HALF TREBLE FOR WHITEWAY

Division One leaders Whiteway moved into the final 8 of the Cinch Self Storage sponsored Knockout cup with a 5-2 victory over Third division, Bath Road Wanderers who held their highly rated opponents at the interval, before eventually being undone by a Cameron New second half hat trick.

Whiteway took the lead on 17 minutes with Ashton Muir netted from the first of three assists from Gary Jones.

Bath Road Wanderers drew level in the 27th minute thanks to a Jacob Applegate effort.

Whiteway regained the lead on 41 minutes with Ashton Muir and Gary Jones combining for a second time to make it 2-1 to the hosts, Bath Road’s response was immediate and less than a minute later it was 2-apiece, Owen Pearce scoring to give the underdogs hope.

The second half belonged to Whiteway and in particular Cameron New who after being set up by Tyrone Mullholland put the host ahead for the third time in the contest. Four minutes later New found the net again to make it 4-0, Gary Jones completing a hat trick of assists.

With four minutes remaining Cameron New wrapped up his own 3-timer, and as with his first of the game, it was Mullholland who was the provider.

Bath Road Wanderers were also indebted to keeper Ben Amor who made a number of fine stops despite his side losing 5-2.

Two Weir Town FC 1 AFC Ivy 7

IVY CAUSE CUP UPSET WITH TWO WEIR WIN

In the Knockout cup battle between Bath based rivals, Two Weir Town from Division One and Third division AFC Ivy saw the latter produce the shock of the day if not the Second round ties from the Cinch Self Storage sponsored competition.

AFC Ivy who have lost just the one match to date and had already disposed of third division stablemates Forest Albion and Manor FC in earlier rounds, would have started the game as underdogs but after taking a 4-1 interval lead they showed they are force to be reckoned with.

Harrison Collings saw his opener cancelled out by Conor McDonald before Ben Millett reclaimed the lead for AFC Ivy. Goals from George Trueman and Harry Shortridge put Ivy 4-1 up and in charge of the tie.

After the break Ben Millett who had scored a brace in his pervious Knockout cup outing, went one better as his second goal of the contest made it 5-1 be he added goal number six to complete his hat trick.

Owen Windsor added a seventh for AFC Ivy before an injury to a Two Weir Town player, forced the match to finish 5 minutes ahead of time. Under League rules the result after 85 minutes will stand.
