DIVISION ONE ROUND UP – 17th December 2023
Spires Athletic FC 2 Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 1
CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY FOR SPIRES
In the built up to the Festive period, Kieran Baskerville will have looked at Spire Athletic’s home fixture against Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC, and thought their would be no joy coming his way especially as his team were thumped 10-2 when the teams met back in October, and that the opponents arrived at Stanley Park, knowing that any sort of victory would have seen then leapfrog current pole sitters Whiteway who were without a game.
Fox & Hounds may have been missing a few players, but nothing should be taken away from Spires excellent performance who after recent defeats against Old Road (twice) and Two Weir Town ripped up the form book as they battled to a 2-1 success.
Zach Preston’s second goal of the campaign gave Spires the lead and separated the sides at the break.
Frank Mbvuta doubled Spires advantage and even though Matt Mead’s penalty got Fox & Hounds (Warminster) back in the game, Spires were able to shut up shop and see the match out to claim a well deserved victory, that they will be hoping will see them build on, when they return to action in 2024.
