DIVISION TWO ROUND UP – 17th December 2023

Kingfisher FC 5 Griffin FC 1

FISHERMEN HOOK PRIZE SCALP OF GRIFFIN

Kingfisher FC welcomed second division leaders Griffin to their Buckley Barracks home and are fast becoming a bogey team for the leaders having held Corsham Rovers to a draw recently.

In the reverse fixture at the beginning of the season Griffin won 2-1 at home and they started very brightly with Matthew Pawley scoring after just 2 minutes. For most of the first half Griffin played some nice football in front of goal but could not break down the solid Kingfisher defence to extend their lead as they took a 1-0 lead into half time.

Again, Griffin looked the more likely to score in the early part of the second half until in the 67th minute Adam Loveridge equalised for Kingfisher after a defensive mix up.

Ten minutes later the same player extended Kingfisher’s lead from a free kick. Griffin began to press forward to get the equaliser. In the 86th minute, Kieran Blake broke away and lobbed the keeper to give Kingfisher a 3-1 lead.

Griffin’s shape seemed to break down as Todd Richardson broke away to score a fourth in the final minutes. Jason Stanley then added a fifth in added time to give Kingfisher a welcome 5-1 home win that dented the hopes of title chasing Griffin.

Farrington Albion FC 1 Forest Renegades FC 4

After a heavy loss the previous week, Forest Renegades returned to winning ways as they visited Farrington Albion.

Douglas Dickson opened the scoring for Renegades with his first goal for the club before Daniel Turvey equalised as the sides went in level at half time 1-1.

The second half however belonged to Renegades as Nathan Baines restored their lead before Douglas Dickson scored his second and Renegades third. Tom A’Court, Renegades leading scorer Tom A’Court added a further goal to give them a 4-1 away win.

Olympic Victoria FC 3 Combe Down FC 2

DOWNERS SHOCKED BY VICTORIA FIGHTBACK

Another title chaser to suffer a surprise defeat were Combe Down who visited Olympic Victoria.

Olympic Victoria have found some good form recently but found themselves 2-0 down at half time as Combe Down’s leading scorer Dyllan Angishan-Law scored twice for the visitors.

Victoria however came out fighting in the second half as Tom Woofenden reduced the arrears, before Ben Lee equalised and then scored again to give Victoria a good 3-2 win.
