After booking their place in the final of the Wiltshire Sunday Cup last weekend, Chippenham & Bath Premier Division Leaders, FC Devizes United hosted Corsham Pavao looking to chalk up a victory that would have almost certainly handed them the title.
When they teams met on the opening day of the season, the points were shared following a 2-2 draw, since that meeting there is no question that Devizes have been the better of the two sides and that was confirmed earlier this season when Devizes defeated Pavao 6-2 in the Sunday Cup, however on this occasion Pavao proved to be the better side as they battled to a 4-3 win that leaves defending top flight champions Scoop needing to take 7 points from a possible 9 to deny Devizes the winners crown.
Everything looked to be going to plan for Devizes as goals from Jamie Walters and Jack Coward put them 2 goals in front. Ben Wickens got Pavao back in the contest and when Zac Hillier restored parity prior to half time it was game on.
After the break, Pavao picked up from where they had ended the first half, a timely first goal of the season for Lewis McCarron put Pavao 3-2 up and his second of the game, gave them a 4-2 lead.
Devizes tried to stage a comeback, Jordan Kirk reduced the arrears for the leaders, but that was as close as they got and now James Stobart’s side face an anxious wait to see if they can top the table for a first time after finishing as runners up for the last two season’s.

KINGMEAD DOWN RUSTY UNI BOYS
Not having played since the defeated Lavis FC 2-1 back in early December, University Of Bath FC returned to action with a match against local rivals Kingsmead FC. After a lay off of over two months, the Uni Boy’s although suffering a 3-0 loss were not as rusty as they may have expected to be.
Kingmead were 2-up at the break with both Ritchie Chandler and Callum Davies finding the net.
Although they may have been expected to run away with the game in the second half that wasn’t the case as Ryan Rudland scored the only goal that sealed the King’s Men 3-0 win.
