Andy Howard’s First Division Lansdown FC welcomed Luke Thomson’s Second Division Corsham Rovers FC to the Subsidiary Cup Final held at Devizes Town FC.
For Lansdown this was their second cup final and similarly for Corsham Rovers who are the current holders of this Cup having beaten Griffin in final last year.
Ahead of the match a minute’s silence was held in memory of Pete Cox, former player, Referee Appointment’s Secretary and Club Secretary on the league who recently passed away.
As the game opened Lansdown were clearly rattled by the way Man of the Match Jake Dodge was dancing through their defence on the left hand side. After only 6 minutes Rovers captain Owen Thomson met a cross from the left to open the scoring for them.
Matthew Britton in the Lansdown goal was clearly the busier of the two keepers but could not stop Jake Dodge extending Rovers lead with a low shot in the 17th minute.
Callum Thorburn added a third from the edge of the area, when Lansdown failed to clear. Jake Dodge added his second after 35 minutes after some nice interplay and then claimed his hat trick in the 42nd minute as Rovers went into half time with a 5-0 lead.
Andy Howard’s half time team talk clearly paid dividends as his Lansdown team clearly looked more compact in the second half and began to give Rovers some problems going forward. However, after 55 minutes top scorer Elliott Haffenden outpaced the defence to score sand extend the lead to 6-0 before substitute Jake Abbott added a seventh in the 66th minute. Lansdown did not give up and battled on the end but were unable to score.
Credit to both teams for the spirit in which the game was played. The trophies were presented by Fixture Secretary Andy Hillier. Thanks also to Devizes Town FC for hosting the two Finals.
