BARNES LANDS KNOCKOUT BLOW ON GRIFFIN

Bath based rivals Griffin FC and Lansdown FC went head to head in the Subsidiary Cup semi final and it was underdogs Lansdown who got one over Memorial Cup winners Griffin who were favourites to make it through to the final of the competition for a second successive season.

Dave Walton opened the scoring for Griffin as the eyed a second Cup Final having beaten Spires in the Memorial Cup Final. This being the only goal of the half, Griffin led 1-0 at half time.

Jake Clement however equalised for Lansdown after half time before James Jones gave them a 2-1 lead. Alexander Raistrick hit back for Griffin to leave the score at 2-2.

As the game went into injury time Ewan Barnes broke the deadlock  for Lansdown to give them their second ever Cup Final appearance, having won the Secretary’s cup in 2018.

HAFFENDEN SHINES AS HOLDERS REACH CUP FINAL

Memorial Cup losing finalists Spires Athletic were looking forward to a second final of the season, with only Subsidiary Cup holders Corsham Rovers standing in their way.

After a goalless first half a second half hat trick from Elliot Haffenden dented Spires hopes of a second cup final appearance this season as the visitors took a 3-0 lead which Spires were unable to recover from.

Dylan Hatt did pull a goal back for Spires, but Rovers held on to reach the Final for the second consecutive year and as current holders will bid to become the first team since North Bradley in 1991 to retain the trophy having won it the previous season the league ran both a Senior and Junior Subsidiary Cup competition.

The Subsidiary Cup final takes place at Nursteed Road, home of Devizes Town FC on Sunday 12th May, kick off 2.15pm.
